Deno's Diary Part 3, A new Chapter

Deno (proper name De Novo) was adopted by FHG posters in 2005 when one of them, Shebalator, rescued him from slaughter.

Then - 700lbs underweight with a broken jaw and multiple other ills.

Photobucket

2008 - still struggling with sarcoids but finally fit enough to have a light rider up for the first time so he could
join his mates on a jaunt round the local lanes

Photobucket

2009 - due to sheb’s declining health, a new home was sought for Deno.
A very brave ebayer named upthecreekyetagain ( very apt name I think you will agree) agreed to take him on.
So, now Deno lives in Surrey with the Creeky family, plus 3 lovely mares. He has 5 acres of grass and orchards to roam in and is very happy.

Photobucket

His sarcoids still remain a problem, but a new vet is investigating them further to decide on the best course of palliative care.
Visits can be arranged, please contact Creeky for more info.

Deno is reliant on fundraising and donations for his food, medicines and all the things that make his world that bit nicer.

His in-depth story can be found on his website http://www.denorescuedhorse.co.uk/
and there is more info (including how you can join in and help him) on Elphaba’s Me Page.

This replaces his previous diary thread that had become too cumbersome to load.
And to mark the start of the next chapter of his life.

New Deno supporters always welcome!

he Mad Hatter in charge of Captain Chaos...
Scary thought, that! 😮 😉

Oh Crivens!
Propped up against a tree.
I shouldn't laugh but I am :^O

Biker, wash your mouth out.
Red shoes indeed.
You know Deno's favourite colour is pink.

I can't remember either Elph (but nothing unusual there).
I know Deno came close to it a couple of times but whether it actually happened I haven't the foggiest.

Creeky I think I remember Sheb saying that Deno would need special shoes when she had the farrier booked, but I've been to sleep a few times since then so don't hold me to that.

Funny you mentioning TT wraps Borzoi.
Was talking to someone yesterday morning who'd used them on her Great Dane. He had balance problems and kept tripping over his own feet, she said the wraps really did help him learn where to put his feet so he didn't keep wobbling.

did i hear my name called,

right, delving into the extremely dark bits of my head,
i don't think deno had shoes on while he was with sheb,
i think it was always planned but the daft lummox always did something to himself to scupper best laid plans,
i think he was shod when he was with mr nasty,
but i might be wrong, will double check when i next speak to sheb.

and i know exactly what creeky means about propping deno against a tree, remember, we had leg wraps on him and i was sure he was gonna fall over completely!!!

towery, deno had both a sexy farrier
and a vet, cooooooooor the vet, *swoon*

towery, i'm much better thanks, it was a reacurance of
an old illness, i have flare ups, but not very often, which means i tend to forget at first why its happening,
but, am going to see vet next week to see if there is anything that can be done to stop it happening, or at least make things a bit more bareable.

Bareable LOL :^O
Hope they sort you Goth 🙂

How you doing Towery?

And that is interesting Wickedy as exactly what I'd heard it was supposed to do but not spoken to anyone who'd tried it for that. As you know, worked for my storm phobic dog ( RIP Flight ), fascinating how these simple things can help so much 🙂

Am thinking Deno is going to be in for a shock next week when shoes go on !!! but another step forward in his progress :-)

Deno's Diary Part 3, A new Chapter

Morning all
Sorry not been around much over the last few days - been busy.

Have been down to check the lummox and he's fine.

Can't remember who asked but the antibiotics don't seem to have affected his sarcoids one way or another - he's been off the coriolus during the course of antibiotics but will go back on the starter dose in the middle of next week.

Regarding his feet they are not in the best of condition but hopefully after a few visits from the farrier and special shoes if needed we can get them A1 - should be interesting if he's not had shoes on for a while - will be walking around on tippy-toes for a few days - maybe we should get some pink hoof oil!

Will do an update for the week in the next day or so.

Incidentally he has no visitors planned for this weekend so if anyone does want to pop round please do shout.

Morning,

I was half hoping to ask, Creeky, but my Dad is gadding about again this weekend and we really have to combine a visit with him to justify the petrol at the moment.

Is he on a hoof supplement still? I know he was at some point. Tis probably another hangover from his near liver failure (quite apart from the mechanical damage to his hooves he had) Like fingernails in people, horses hooves show the signs of past trauma and any nutritional deficiencies if he's still not processing quite right. Those feets have to hold a lot of horse up....when there isn't a tree around 😄 Did chuckle at that myself

Deno's Diary Part 3, A new Chapter

Afternoon

Just for accountability, I sent £20 to Merlyn earlier as proceeds from the nets.

The rest of the donations I'm holding till MDCC to get the best traffic, and if nobody minds I will do some for my sister at the same time (not as MDCC obviously, but so both can take advantage of cross promotion across varied categories)

Sorry for the mix up Borzoi, I meant I can't ask to visit this weekend as Dad is out flashing 😄

*tempted to leave that statement unexplained but better had say he's doing a light show with his bus at a street van meet*

Creeky, depending on the amount of damage,
the farrier might recommend stapling.

One of the horses I cared for had splits in
both front hooves, with stapling (over a period of time)
the splits were repaired really well.

It is more costly, but in Jaspers case, very effective.

Charlie

I don't think Deno's feet are bad enough to need staples - we are hoping that with the farrier cutting out as much of the split as possible then fitting shoes to suit this will together with a biotin supplement get the cracks to grow out.

Fingers crossed.

Aw that's good.

I had both my horses on Biotin, excellent stuff.

Hope you all have a good week-end.
