Deno's Diary Part 3, A new Chapter

Deno (proper name De Novo) was adopted by FHG posters in 2005 when one of them, Shebalator, rescued him from slaughter.

Then - 700lbs underweight with a broken jaw and multiple other ills.




2008 - still struggling with sarcoids but finally fit enough to have a light rider up for the first time so he could
join his mates on a jaunt round the local lanes



2009 - due to sheb’s declining health, a new home was sought for Deno.
A very brave ebayer named upthecreekyetagain ( very apt name I think you will agree) agreed to take him on.
So, now Deno lives in Surrey with the Creeky family, plus 3 lovely mares. He has 5 acres of grass and orchards to roam in and is very happy.



His sarcoids still remain a problem, but a new vet is investigating them further to decide on the best course of palliative care.

Deno is reliant on fundraising and donations for his food, medicines and all the things that make his world that bit nicer.

as a owner of a group supporting deno i would like to give my take on this discussion.

some of you will know that i have a group called loonys and have had for years,  (ever since groups were for started on ebay )

The group has been off ebay for well over a year and its the best move i ever made for a variety of reasons.

My group was specially set up because of monkey world and the owners asking me not to sell on ebay auctions to raise funds because of ebays reputation.

When i found fhg and saw the thread about deno we started  to raise funds for him once a year with an event that was different and sent the money on to goth.

 couple of years ago i set up a charity account and it was decided that any money raised at our once yearly event  would be used by frank for either posh or deno.  it was in essence an emergency fund.   Goth is a sig holder on that bank account.

We also have our own paypal account.

This of course was never meant to replace this thread nor undermine the deno supporters who were raising money long before i arrived on this thread.

The group also fund raised and still does for other charities and good causes.

We have a dedicated thread for posh which isnt posted on very often and deno, lulu and the welsh`s get an occasional mention as well.

Yes there are things discused that should not be put in public as its often personal family stuff.  Loonys is a family group and most members feel secure and able to post personal and private things in a group that is not public.

There is never and has`t been anything agreed/decisions  about deno discussed in the group apart from when cuddles died and a new girlfriend was urgently needed for deno.

Frank will sometimes add a post in there that he has posted on here if its news on deno and posh.

A group also means that those not able to come here can also feel involved.

This thread is important and could never replace any group for a number of reasons.

I really hope that people dont think frank only posts in groups with news because he doesnt.   From the experiences in my group he actually posts less news than you get here.:_|

Moz, I have been running a multi-charity forum for 10 months now (off eBay) and our memebrs do great works for our MDCC charities. 

Deno and Posh were assigned their own category as soon as I set up the forum.  I have invited 4 people from FHG to 'run' the Deno section - and have had no response in 10 months.  I simply can't run every category in our multi-charity forum.

Moz, I am delighted to hear that you are still helping Deno and Posh and Lunar through your efforts. 

I am promoting the 'December MDCC Listing for Deno' but it will be limited because many members don't feel an affinity to him.  

As Biker said before, I lost interest when I sent my money to othic every month for 3 years and there wasn't even a 'thank you'.  I don't do anything for thanks - but I felt I was whistling in the wind.  I know from my own charity forum that it is important to stay 'engaged' with thopse raising and donating the money. 

I don't have a favoured charity of my own - I simply promote MDCC charities in my forum.

Now if a Deno supporter wants to join us and run the Deno find-raising section - simply PM me or fluffypenquin, breakawaykidzvan, merc1clocks, shaycos, kitekats, sara

Creeky - please don't think that I stopped donating.  I always try to find one of Welshtoff's MDCC items to buy 😉  But if I sell, it has to go through Gothic*immortal and I feel pretty disgruntled.

However, you shouldn't have to apologise on behalf of anyone else.  Gothic may 'own Deno' so she has to do whatever it takes to keep the funds coming in.  A simple 'thank you' for funds donated doesn't take much effort does it?

Anyway as I said before, I am promoting the December fund raising for Deno - but I will have limited success because Deno has simply never had a representative in our multi-charity forum. 

So far there are 2 of us listing at least one item for December MDCC.  Maybe some more will follow.  We'll see.

geranne  i think from what you have said , that you hit the nail on the head whicvh seems to be backed up by others on here.

i dont normally interfear but on this ocassion i will and will speak to goth direct.

i am sure she doesnt mean to , probabaly not the right word but only one i can think of here,  ignore people so a gentle mozzling might prompt her into action.   am sure she will be upset that people understandably feel like this

brain working over time here and knowing how difficult it can be to get hold of goth quickly.

This is a temp solution until goth has got it sorted if anyone is interested.

The one thing i do not want to see is the loss of interest in deno.  this isnt denos fault nor franks.

As i have said i set up a dedicated charity bank account and pp account a couple of years ago to avoid any mix up with my own accounts and that i can give copies to people with out disclosing my own personal account details.

i am more than happy to take any monies raised for deno for the time being and i will i promise faithfully to acknowledge any payments.  also to let you know on here when frank has had the money.  

Frank is also a sig holder on the account so is able to access any money when he wants but he tends to wait until it mounts up a bit rather than take it in small amounts.

i hope people on here think this would be ok.  as i said its just a temp measure until  the problem can be sorted and things return to normal    i hope

That is the PayPal account I send the money to each month from MDCC, so I can guarantee that what Moz says is true 🙂

I'm not going to get involved in the way in which contributions to Deno's upkeep is organised or handled - however it is done is up to the givers :-x

I was not aware that others felt unthanked and unloved for the work and money they devote to Deno and Posh although on a personal level perhaps that is what I have been suggesting regarding my family's situation.

We must be one of, if not the biggest, financial donor towards Deno's upkeep and we most certainly are in terms of the hours we put in looking after him and yes it is nice to know this is appreciated.

Frank, you, Corrie , Sam & the young girls all put in so much hard work. Those animals want for nothing, and couldn't ask for a better home anywhere!  It is lovely to see the trust and devotion the horses have for you and your Family.

I think if all those interested in Deno & Co could just do a tiny bit each month as and when they can, those small amounts do add up and go towards helping.

glares at welshy fer not mentioning all the hard work i do like buy   lots of karrits and apples  .   taught him to love a guiness or 2 and  the odd pint of apple jiuce and sneak him and posh the odd donut when sams not looking.

Then theres the cutting of grass for them,  when frank hasnt wrecked the mower that is,     helping mend the hooligans handiwork and poop pickin.    Organising frank,   feeding them their food in bowls and hay and stuff.

Takes its toll on one you know.  especially the organising of frank.:_|

I know you can do lovely Mozzling Moz! 

As I said before, I don't do things for "thanks" but sometimes the spirit and motivation weakens. 

The multi-charity forum I run has done great things in the 10 months we have been together.  We raised £1,000 for Haworth Cat Rescue in 6 months.  Liz is thrilled with her Christmas for Chaldon appeal - we covered all her animal food for 7 days and bought gifts for each and every animal she cares for.  (We raised more than £500 in 2 months). We have been raising money and sending  parcels for Biker's Oldies Lunch Club. 

I don't say any of this to boast - but motivation and 'thanks' keeps bringing the money into the coffers. 

Anyway, I have had an offer from someone on this thread to run the Deno category in the forum.  Hopefully, we can try to help Deno and the 'osses during 2013.

If you collect the money into your account Moz and then post a total MDCC amount that you transfer to Gothic - that would satisfy an audit trail ... and you can always tell us our targets and how much we raised as a group.

I really like that idea!

Geranne - that's a very nice thought re your group collecting for Deno and though I have no special right to either encourage or discourage financial support for Deno I have to say I wouldn't on a personal level want this support to detract from help for either Chaldon or Hayworth.

Both of these charities very much depend on donations and are both ones that I try to suppot as well even if it is only buying the odd MDCC items.

I can now tell you that it is Moz who is going to run the Deno category and whip up the support!  If anyone wants to join Moz in the forum - she can now send you the link to the Deno category. 

Now we don't do swearing, and no nekkedness coz I am cafflick - other than that I think you can pretty much run amok as much as you need to in the Deno category!  :^O

I would like to see pictures of the hunky farrier (for research purposes only you understand.)

When Moz gets her head sorted and starts her new threads - I'll jump in with a fund-raising offer.  (Holiday Home in Chester for 7 days for £350)  I usually offer 1 week per year for a chosen charity.  I am okay to offer 2 weeks this year - 1 for Chaldon 2013 and 1 for Deno. 

So don't worry Creeky - we know how to balance out our support.
