Deno's Diary Part 3, A new Chapter

Deno (proper name De Novo) was adopted by FHG posters in 2005 when one of them, Shebalator, rescued him from slaughter.

Then - 700lbs underweight with a broken jaw and multiple other ills.

Photobucket

2008 - still struggling with sarcoids but finally fit enough to have a light rider up for the first time so he could
join his mates on a jaunt round the local lanes

2009 - due to sheb’s declining health, a new home was sought for Deno.
A very brave ebayer named upthecreekyetagain ( very apt name I think you will agree) agreed to take him on.
So, now Deno lives in Surrey with the Creeky family, plus 3 lovely mares. He has 5 acres of grass and orchards to roam in and is very happy.

His sarcoids still remain a problem, but a new vet is investigating them further to decide on the best course of palliative care.
Visits can be arranged, please contact Creeky for more info.

Deno is reliant on fundraising and donations for his food, medicines and all the things that make his world that bit nicer.

His in-depth story can be found on his website http://www.denorescuedhorse.co.uk/
and there is more info (including how you can join in and help him) on Elphaba’s Me Page.

This replaces his previous diary thread that had become too cumbersome to load.
And to mark the start of the next chapter of his life.

New Deno supporters always welcome!

Re: Deno's Diary Part 3, A new Chapter

I think interest in Deno has generally wained now that he's safe and his future is secure.

That doesn't make his care any cheaper or less hard work mind you 😞

Apologies but I feel I have to respond.

I dont think its that the interest waned. I think there are other issues from the past:-(

But then you know my views on it all I have voiced my fears to you some time ago. They dont call me tad for nothing :|:^O

I along with many of the old supporters felt the same

And no Im not prepared to go into it on here 😉

Indeed it certainly helped knowing Deno was safe and secure and that you would never let him down.

I hope Lulu learns to be a lady and stops being a rogue

Did you give her brief notes on what knife to use when and how to flounce with grace? I do hope so

?I guess I should warn you. If you know what I said, you've probably misunderstood.?

sorry, but to be honest, even a little is worth having? Some of us feel completely devalued, just trying to do a liitle to help out.

If the effort these groups put in to raise monies wasn't great enough, to get some sort of support, well, I for one, give up....:-(

Re: Deno's Diary Part 3, A new Chapter

:-x

Deno didn't disappear anywhere 😮

Looking after Deno has never been about money although I have to admit that from time to time he has put a real financial strain on us - he has this unerring knack of getting into trouble at the most inconvenient of times. :^O

He has been the focus of much sadness and much laughter during his time with us and whilst it is easy to recount the lighter side on a public forum it is sometimes more difficult during the darker times.

What's really being said, I think, is that I have spent more "quality" time in groups, well one in particular  - when I've needed immediate, urgent and practical  help in looking after him then that has been my first port of call.

You can't blame Deno for that 😮

Deno is a fine example to us all - he doesn't bear grudges, fall out with anyone nor expect anymore than life throws at him.  When you consider the awful things that have been done to him in the past, the changes to where he has lived and the people who have cared for him and the trauma of losing his first real horsey companion and friend, (Cuddles), then it is a miracle that he always welcomes new and old faces alike with open hooves and a demand for Polos and karrits :-x

On mine and my family's part things are more complex - at times we have felt overwhelmed by the generosity of strangers at others felt forgotten but we have tried to learn from Deno and made anyone and everyone welcome who wants to hear about, help or visit Deno.

I am probably the newest of the "Deno Defenders", not being part of the original group of this club, but that is all I am, just one of many who care about Deno.  It's not up to me to keep "interest" in Deno alive or getting involved in any "issues" that members may have, I have my hands full with the practical side of looking after him.

I don't know why some groups may have died or people stopped taking part on this thread, that's up to those involved.  It may well be because of a perceived lack of interest on my part.  I feel uncomfortable when "fund raising" events for Deno take place because I don't feel I can take an active part in the same way that I can when raising money for other causes.  I can hardly buy items or encourage others to do so without looking mercenary. 😞

Deno is not a charity in the same way that others are who care for groups of needy animals who have no option but to fundraise and keep interest in their causes active if they are to survive and continue with their remarkable work.

Deno is a one off, and if I am expected to continually promote him and to keep interest him alive then that is just not fair.  I was promised when I took on his care that there would always be support for him, not financial but genuine interest and concern for his well being.

There is one group of about a dozen people who do demonstrate that interest in phone calls, emails and regular visits and most of them, like me, were not original Defenders.  I've responded to them because they have shown that interest and if that level of response has been the cause of others distancing themselves from Deno then so be it.

I don't think I am expressing myself very well here and probably doing more harm than good - certainly not doing my image as a
hard practical person much good :^O

All I am really saying is that I, and my family, have learnt from Deno, show an interest in Deno's welfare and we will respond.  Ignore us and we won't bear grudges and will welcome you back when you do want to make contact  :-x
