Does anyone on here have any knowledge of Budgie ailments please? I had to take mine to the vet's yesterday as he has lost the feathers on his neck/chest area. He is being treated for a mite infection and had some spot-on drops applied, they last for a month. There were a few more feathers in the cage this a.m. He's still lively and talking and playing as normal. I just wondered how they get these mites or whatever they are? He isn't pulling the feathers out himself, so it's not a boredom thing with him. Never had this problem with a Budgie before. Thanks for any advice.

Must admit, CB, I was a bit on edge in case he did swear when I took him to the vet's, but he was silent! His other most-used word is "sh*t" so it would have been a bit embarrassing. Whenever I try to take a video of him talking and playing, he just sits there and does nothing.

I can see a tiny bit of downy, fluffy stuff on Tweet's chest, so hopefully the drops will work, but I don't want to say too much at this stage, LOL Still not had replies from the Budgie forum about the dust bath; maybe they think it is a daft question. Or maybe they aren't as friendly and helpful as us lot.

Well, he shouldn't listen in to arguments, Rose, LOL When he swears and I say, "That's naughty, Tweet" he doesn't repeat that phrase, only the ones he shouldn't. My friend was here this afternoon and he was saying his favourite "T" word; luckily my friend pretended she hadn't heard.

Years ago a group of my mates were thrown out of London Zoo because they went into the bird house where there was this parrot on a perch looking pretty fed up with itself and decided to try to teach it to swear! They were too drunk to care about the horrified looks on respectable ladies with their children. There were only a few people in there but at first but started off as a whisper soon developed into a screaming match with a load of drunken loonies. They were all screeching their heads off towards the end. The poor creature was highly stressed. They deserved to be thrown out. No sympathy.

Ohhhhhh Carol thats funny ha ha ha ha . My friend has a bird and we try to make it talk as it has not said anything yet. I said it could burst out with something naughty as we both use a bit of naughty language if we are getting uptight in our conversation. Im fascinated with talking birds,,,its amazing what they can pick up!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

The funny thing is, I never tried to make Tweet talk. About 5 months after I got him, I was sat down and I heard this little voice say "Hello" quickly followed by "What you doing" I couldn't believe it as I've never had a talking Budgie before. I was thrilled to bits though. And from there he has just picked up all these phrases and made up his own sentences. Even now he still says the name of the little dog I lost last year, Poppy. He sounds so funny in his Yorkshire accent.
I think Mynah birds are the greatest mimics aren't they?

I've heard that Starlings are good mimics too; they aren't always the noisy squawking birds they appear to be.

Fingers crossed that the new spiky feathers that are appearing on Tweet's chest will turn into proper plumage and not drop out. He's got a couple of red marks on his head but I think he might have been bashing his budgie a bit too hard. Will keep you updated and hope he's on the mend now.
