What's with all these ridiculous new "badges"?

Is it just me, or are others insulted by the infantilisation of this board, and being awarded badges, for "being helpful", or whatever?

I'm a grown up, not a child. I don't need badges so others can see how helpful I am.

My 3 year old granddaughter get awarded badges at nursery school, for acheiving things like washing her hands, brushing her teeth, being nice to her little sister etc., and quite honestly, it feels like I'm seen by ebay, as having about the same mental age as her!

We're all adults here; I just wish eBay would treat us as such.

Over promise, then under deliver = negative buyer experience, INR cases, unhappy buyers and sellers.
Under promise, then over deliver = Positive buyer experience, joy and happiness all round.
If only eBay could get their heads round this basic concept, this would be a happier place for all.

It says I am an "Engager" by my name above. On my profile though, it says I have been promoted to "Member", which I thought was a bit limp..........

I``ve cut this twice and it`s still too short

I could answer that but it would get me kicked out of the community.

I've just seen the list of new user titles and it's even more complicated than I thought.

There's three ranks now. Not seen an Einstein mentor yet, anyone know who that is?

Re: What's with all these ridiculous new "badges"?

Ok....now to me this is getting  dafter after i queeried my current rank.

It appears that i qualify for the rank but not the associated benefits because its the role and not the rank that qualifies me to have the additional benefits.   So currently i am the same rank as the old Community Experts but cannot respond on the M2M Boards.

My solution to being given a title that i do not want..........never respond on the boards and hopefully get downgraded to a noob lol

I guess i will also not be getting a Christmas bonus from Ebay this year lol

you should get something for Christmas for all the work you put in before you decided to step back!

I'd hoped Jedi Master would be in there somewhere.

And the difference between a genius mentor and an Einstein Mentor (who was a genius) is? Seems like somebody ran out of ideas.

It would be nice if someone in authority actually explained to us the ranking levels and how they are arrived at and relevance.

New Community Ranks - what a load of unwanted, unnecessary, un-asked for, over complicated, Americanised, NONSENSE!

I'd like to state the above in a more forthright manner, but if I did, I'd probably have to take a week's holiday from the boards 😉

Over promise, then under deliver = negative buyer experience, INR cases, unhappy buyers and sellers.

Re: What's with all these ridiculous new "badges"?

If this is such a brilliant well thought out concept how come the reps are exempt. They all stay safe as plain "Community Team".

Why not a bit of well earned variation. Bad Ideas Community Team, Reaching Out Community Team, We're Here For You Community Team, We're Listening Community Team, We're Not Listening Community Team, Not a Tech Team Community Team, We Only Do What .Com tells Us To Do Community Team...............................

Yes I deleted most of my suggestions.

As a "Guide", I've changed my avatar 🤣

S'amazing what you can find when you are bored and you google.

Which is correct advisor or adviser?
For those more old school, the Oxford Dictionary says: “The spellings adviser and advisor are both correct. Adviser is more common, but advisor is also widely used, especially in North America. Adviser may be seen as less formal, while advisor often suggests an official position.”
So as we are  AdvisOrs, looks like we are in an 'official position' - is there a wage? Do we get holidays? Is there a badge (for the badge)?

Is advisor the same as mentor?
So, an adviser will direct you without regard to your specific personal situation, needs, or passions. A mentor will allow you--and even encourage you--to choose your own direction, offering guidance that does take into consideration your personal situation, needs, and passions.

What makes you a good conversationalist?
Being courteous. If there is one overarching trait that makes a good conversationalist, it's courtesy. Showing good manners and respect for the other person is the only way to keep a meaningful conversation flowing.

What is female guru called?
There is not a common, female form of the word guru, so that a female guru is usually called Mātā jī, "revered mother" (Clementin-Ojha 1998; Pechilis 2004)

Re: What's with all these ridiculous new "badges"?

The British Air Force has 11 ranks

The British Army has 12 ranks

The British Navy has 17 ranks

The eBay Community tops them all, with 19 ranks 🤣

Way to go, eBay!

I haven't got the stamina to do a badge count, but I could take an educated guess...

Re: What's with all these ridiculous new "badges"?

One all time favourite tune of mine is I Love America by Patrick Juvet.

Shame it doesn't apply in reality, especially to all the Americanisms we are forced to endure if we wish to stay using this forum. Just when you thought it couldn't get anymore childish.

As another old tune says, "I should have known better" but naturally as the insidious takeover of eBay U.K. continues I was wrong, can hardly contain myself waiting for the high five sign to replace useful or as many of us still know and use it as, like.

In the meantime I think most can guess where my designation should appear in my latest id, not entirely sure if I will bother posting much more as the site degenerates into anything other than a place for adult U.K. eBay users.

EDIT

How can I "rank up to" guide in one place and be a converwhateveritis on this page?

Pardon me for breathing, which I never do anyway so I don't know why I bother to say it, Oh God, I'm so depressed

Re: What's with all these ridiculous new "badges"?

Bit confusing, this is. I've just logged in to find that I've been down-ranked to a Conversationalist. I was definitely a Guide yesterday and now I'm not, which is a bit of a downer. It's not the first time I've been drummed out the Guides though, so I'll get over the diappointment.

I'm going to have to take the uniform back but I'm not sure what to do about the surgery...
