If they have opened a case for item not as described, you will have to accept it, do so within 3 days, and pay for that fully tracked return postage label. Only refund and only through the case details when the item is back with. You have 48 hours to do so.
Stick within those timelines and your seller performance is not affected.
You can then appeal the decision for the refund quoting the buyer has abused eBay's 30 day MBG by sending the wrong item back, photos of the one sent and one received will help.
I'm not gonna say it's a slam dunk that eBay will side with you as they do not see the item in question, but you never know this buyer may have done this before, and if there is a pattern of abuse eBay will spot it.
Block this nuisance buyer from returning to your sales too, here:

As above for your first course of action but this practice of rogue buyers claiming NAD is becoming increasingly common which Ebays policy appearing to favour the buyers seems to cultivate.
It is one of the reasons that many users are abandoning Ebay especially for selling.
For selling high value items it may be wise to find an alternative outlet or at least arm yourself in future with clear evidence and photo's of every item being packaged but to be frank and from previous experience the buyer usually gets favoured..

This unfortunately would not help any member in any case opened against them, as it cannot be proved the item being packaged is the actual item later being posted.
However, you are correct, that usually eBay will favour a buyer in these cases, but if a buyer has previous form of claiming too many refunds for NAD, this works in a seller's favour, so always worth appealing even if it's a slim chance of winning.

Thank you for quick reply. I’m sure you are right and they will receive a full refund and I will be left with the *bleep* they have returned to me.
I have heard about this happening on Vinted but never thought about eBay but I will look for
Alternative selling platforms.
I usually take pictures of package but I will start taking picks of when I am putting items in boxes as well
Just so bloody angry

This will not help any eBay case, as you cannot prove the item you are filming being packed, is the actual item that was posted. I'm afraid, eBay would not accept any such ' video evidence'.

I've been on ebay since day one in the UK largely as a buyer and over the past year or so the scammers have become noticeably more prevalent especially with this type of assisted theft.
Maybe that's been helped by the increased "improvements" that keep getting rolled out or simply that the organised gangs have become more focused here.
I had dealings with one "buyer" who had multiple accounts used for one hit scams so they didn't get flagged.
The over reliance of their poor AI and dire shortage of ways to contact real intelligent staff isn't helping either.
I mainly only use ebay now for buying as a last resort, most of which is from known businesses and most items i sell isn't the sort of stuff that attracts the scammer type.
If i list anything of real value i mark it as collection only and take my own precautions ( which i can't disclose here) against them pulling a fast one through Ebay later .
You only need to trawl through the community posts and more so Ebays appalling 19,548 and rising 1.2 STAR Trust pilot reviews to see a condensed view of the true situation across all aspects of the site.

Thanks for your reply it was helpful and I totally agree with you eBay are hopeless. This is my first time of having to deal with this type of thing and the fact that they were angry because I called them liars really annoyed me. No doubt they will be refunded but I have blocked them and I will continue with this once I recieve the *bleep* back they said I sent . But won’t hold my breath for it being resolved. Will seriously think about some other way of selling my items.
