Beware of tiny opting out option at the end of 'terms and conditions' when youbuy anything.

I call what happened to me a scam but my bank says it is not a scam.  It is a confidence trick.  At the end of terms and conditions on many payment agreements, there is a tiny little box.   In the small print it says you must tick this box to opt out of contributing to their scheme.  If you dont tick the minscule box, they will start taking regular payment from your bank account.

I have found out the hard way and noticed discrepencies in my bank statements.  The bank can't help me as this activity isn't considered a scam.  I didn't tick the box, therefore, I agreed by default.

Overall I believe this is illegal as a person must activity opt in.

Local laws, data etc should cover this.

Thank you for replying.

That is very interesting. I've been stung and it was suggested that this
was how it happened.
I'll have to investigate further.

The bank said what these people did was perfectly legal and I know I
haven't agreed to it so it was done by stealth. Unfortunately, it is the
only method of paying nowadays, particularly on-line..
