Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 12.03.25 @2pm

Hi everybody!

The Community Chat will open at 2pm and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday. After that it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered—We’ll get to everything as quickly as possible.

Please ask your questions in the thread below. In order to be able to answer your questions as quickly as possible, we ask you to have one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts as you like in the Chat- the more the merrier!

Our eBay Community Team is made up of kat@ebay , dave@ebay and marco@ebay . Between us, we have knowledge in Buying, Selling, Fulfilment, Payments, and the Community itself. Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support. We understand that certain topics, such as concerns about businesses possibly using private accounts, can be frustrating and important to you. Please refrain from asking the same question repeatedly in our weekly live chats. We assure you that we carefully review all posts in the forum and ensure that your concerns are communicated to the relevant teams for appropriate action.
To maintain a constructive and community environment, posts that repeatedly breach this guideline may be removed. Continued violations could result in further action against your community account. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in helping us keep our community focused and respectful.

To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order and will quote the original question in each answer.

Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.

If you missed the weekly chat time, please ask your question in the community boards and tag us or we will be back next week with another chat!

Many thanks,

Your eBay Community Team

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 12.03.25 @2pm

Now that couriers, like Royal Mail, are beginning to implement the Windsor Framework, what steps are eBay, if any, taking to deal with sellers who continue to sell to Northern Ireland/EU without proper information like having a “responsible agent” within the EU as well as bypassing other things like multiple language descriptions on their items as per GPSR Compliance which we were told would come into effect last year?

Hi @custom-giftsuk ,

Ebay do their own internal reviews on accounts for such policies. Listings being hidden are one of the actions taken for this policy. If you have listings in breach of the policy you can report them through the site.

Thank you,

Kat

Global Shipping Programme

Hi

Would it be possible to provide an update on the issues with GSP please? Yesterday, I read a number of reports on the forum of GSP having not been working since 4th February and so checked my own listings. Unfortunately I discovered that, as other members have stated, GSP is not currently functioning as it should, on my listings. Oversees buyers are no longer able to see how much postage will be to their country and instead are being prompted to read the item description or contact the seller. I'm guessing that my own listings have been like this since 4th February therefore, this is another blow to my much beleaguered sales.

I’ve double checked, and can confirm that GSP is enabled on my account and on the relevant Postage Policy.

Hello Team

From Friday to Sunday there was a some sort of tech glitch which hid my shop and all my listings for 48 hours.

It was reported by many sellers across boards

Any recompense ? Or apology?

Thanks

Jo

Hi mygaras, thanks for your post.

We are aware of this, and we are working towards it to get it resolved. However, we still don't have an estimated fix time, I'm afraid. If you want, once this is resolved, we will let you know.

Thank you,

Marco

Simple Delivery

Hi

Just a quick note of concern regarding the cost of Simple Delivery, which has now started appearing as an option on my listings. The explanatory notes for SD state that it offers buyers ‘Competitive Rates’, but I’ve just made a quick comparison, and looking at the rate charts, it’s really not that competitive as there appears to be no Royal Mail Small Parcel equivalent in Simple Delivery. As most of the items I have for sale fall within this parcel size and weigh up to 2kg, the postage cost will be 88p more through SD than through RM’s Click and Drop website (my current method of buying postage) with  lower compensation cover (£100 on Simple Delivery vs. £150 with Click and Drop). Unless I’m missing something?

I currently offer free postage on my listings, and would be happy to continue to do so if SD becomes mandatory, but not if it means it will cost me 88p more per parcel than it should actually cost. I have already adjusted all my prices to swallow the new Buyer Protection Fee (thus making it in reality, a Seller’s Final Value Fee) but really can’t afford to pay extra for something which I don’t need to. Obviously, I could reduce all my prices again and opt for the buyer to pay the postage, but why should they be penalised and charged 88p more than the service should actually cost?

ps. Evri is not an option for a number of reasons. And even if I was prepared to accept both couriers, it’s still an increase of 32p on my current postage cost.

I’m just concerned that by not offering Royal Mail’s Small Parcel rates on Simple Delivery, this will just be another nail in the coffin for eBay buyers/private sellers. I hope that I can be convinced otherwise 😊

Thanks!

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 12.03.25 @2pm

Good afternoon

Any updates please regarding the issue I raised where we cannot add the same parcel tracking number to the same buyers if they purchased two items, but on two separate transactions on that same day.

I have been asking this for two weeks now, and others have raised the same query too, supplying evidence.

Dave was dealing with this, them Marco, after Dave claimed I have not provided information, which I did.

How long does it take to get issues resolved on eBay please?

Best wishes

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 12.03.25 @2pm

Hi

Not sure if this is a known issue. But when listing new items, the returns policy ( for business accounts ) is automatically set to returns not accepted. Have to keep manually turning it on

Thanks

Hi mygaras, thanks for your input.

This is good feedback, so I will make sure to pass this on, so it can be taken into consideration. However, please note that, this doesn't necessarily means that actions around this will be taken.

Thank you,

Marco

Hi marco@ebay

Aw it's a shame that there's no timescale for a fix. It would be fantastic if this could be sorted as I would like to implement GSP on my business account but it's just not worth it at the moment. An update would be much appreciated as soon as you have one 👍.

Thanks!

Hi @bojangled

There was an issue with this over the weekend which the Tech Team identified and rectified as soon as they became aware of it. It has now been resolved, apologies for any issues this may have caused you.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi equinox-electronics, thanks for your post.

Have you just upgraded from private to business account by any chance? Normally, you wouldn't be able to list an item as a business seller without a return policy, so if you could share 1 or 2 item numbers where we can see this happening, I would appreciate it.

Thank you,

Marco

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 12.03.25 @2pm

Thanks marco@ebay , that would be much appreciated, especially if SD becomes mandatory. Like many sellers have previously stated, if SD becomes mandatory, it really won't be viable to sell on eBay 😕

Hi @custom-giftsuk ,

There isn't anything specific to GSPR as Ebay will primarily do internal reviews themselves. The closest option would be under search and can fill in an explanation however there would be no guarantee it would get picked up for that policy.

Thank you,

Kat

Good afternoon Dave

I appreciate  your reply, but do you think it is acceptable to have to wait over two weeks for this issue to be resolved.   What do eBay suggest sellers do in the meantime with regards this issue.

Best wishes

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 12.03.25 @2pm

Ok thank you Kat, I'll raise this at a later time in a suitable way.

We were all told several months ago that we had to follow GSPR or remove ourselves from shipping to NI/EU if if we didnt follow GSPR on pain of having our accounts restricted. Now it's a case of a large percentage of sellers are ignoring eBay's restrictions on GSPR and there is no action taken that we can see. So essentially those that did follow the rules are being punished by not being able to sell into those territories as per eBay rules and UK/EU law, whilst those that ignored those directives are getting away with breaking those rules and eBay are looking the other way, despite only this week informing people to follow GSPR as per the Winsor accords which eBay did actually send out an email and have it at the top of their announcements

The Windsor Framework comes into effect 31 March 2... - UK eBay Community

Hi @custom-giftsuk ,

I understand your point and with the introduction of the Windsor Framework it will bring these regulations into review. I will share this as feedback with our policy teams.

Thank you,

Kat
