Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 11.06.25 @2pm

Hi everybody!

The Community Chat will open at 2pm and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday. After that it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered—We’ll get to everything as quickly as possible.

Please ask your questions in the thread below. In order to be able to answer your questions as quickly as possible, we ask you to have one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts as you like in the Chat- the more the merrier!

Our eBay Community Team is made up of kat@ebay , dave@ebay and marco@ebay . Between us, we have knowledge in Buying, Selling, Fulfilment, Payments, and the Community itself. Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support. We understand that certain topics, such as concerns about businesses possibly using private accounts, can be frustrating and important to you. Please refrain from asking the same question repeatedly in our weekly live chats. We assure you that we carefully review all posts in the forum and ensure that your concerns are communicated to the relevant teams for appropriate action.
To maintain a constructive and community environment, posts that repeatedly breach this guideline may be removed. Continued violations could result in further action against your community account. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in helping us keep our community focused and respectful.

To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order and will quote the original question in each answer.

Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.

If you missed the weekly chat time, please ask your question in the community boards and tag us or we will be back next week with another chat!

Many thanks,

Your eBay Community Team

Simple Delivery question.

A number of sellers, including myself, are unable to select the 2-10Kg option, it's simply not there in the package size list. The up to 2Kg options are there, then the next option is 15Kg.

I know the option exists, I regularly see listings with Simple Delivery at the 2-10Kg rates. If I click "Sell it yourself" on one of these, it recommends the 15Kg option.

Are they aware of this, and is there any ETA for a fix?

Hi realspark, thanks for your question.

Yes, the option should be there for you. Can I just confirm with you if this only happens when you click on "Sell similar" or "Sell it yourself", or does it happen all the time regardless of the way you list the item?

Thank you,

Marco

In regards your reply to russellmattin - and I'll quote " * Advertising Policies: eBay has specific advertising policies that sellers must adhere to. Sellers are required to provide accurate descriptions and avoid misleading claims.

* Seller Guidelines: eBay provides detailed seller guidelines that outline best practices for creating listings and advertisements. These guidelines help sellers understand what is acceptable and what is not, ensuring compliance with advertising standards."

So if I see a listing that breaches the above guidance from yourself marco@ebay how would one proceed because I've reported through the automated process and gotten nowhere, spoken to eBay CS and gotten nowhere and spoken to eBay Management and gotten nowhere, so what steps should be taken to ensure that the above guidance is followed through?

Thanks for the reply Marco,

It happens all the time, regardless of listing method.

I have been using Simple Delivery for a while now. On the whole it works fine for me.

BUT, eBay really need to be more generous when combining. I sold 3 items (3 x LL @2.70) to a buyer the other day, and they were charged just over £5 postage. I could have sent the parcel, for £3.
Given that eBay would only be paying around £2 per parcel (probably less!), they can absolutely afford to be more generous.

Another solution would be to ask the buyer if they want to pay instantly, including the too-high postage (making it clear that the cost eBay's decision, not the seller), or wait until the seller has selected the size/weight of the combined parcel. If that had been an option on my sale, I could have just selected 1kg Small Parcel, and ebay could then have just charged the buyer 2.94 for an Evri label.

Hi @ruby*ryan ,

Thank you for the feedback.  These are fair points to raise.  I will share your combined order example with the shipping team for review on future improvements to the service.

Thank you,

Kat

Hi marco@ebay

Many thanks for your reply. Yes, there was previously an issue with apostrophes missing from Messages, which as you say, was resolved, but this appears to be a new problem. There are screenshots in my previous post but here they are again. The first two are feedback left for buyers on my private account and the second two are from my business's T&Cs.

Hi Guys

I have asked a couple of questions on here in the last few weeks and was advised you would investigate – are there any updates please?

  1.      With the forthcoming changes to promoted listings if someone clicks on one variation, in a multi-variation listing (not just multiple quantity which i see you have answered), will every sale from that listing for the next 30 days attract a fee – which can be up to 250 different variations?
I sell a lot from multi listings and at present about half of these attract a promoted listing fee. If I understand the proposed changes correctly, the other half will also now attract a fee (as every multi-variation listing attracts at least one click per month under the promotion) which will effectively double the cost of the promotion – with no added value or volume from eBay.

Clearly it means that I have to change or abandon my promoted listings strategy and I just want to be clear of the facts. Can you please confirm one way or the other if one  click on any multi- variation listing means that every variation now attracts a fee and if so is there a work around?

  1.      With the Windsor framework Royal Mail’s own website asks for additional information for postage to NI – weight, type, value etc. When I try to purchase postage to NI through Ebay it doesn’t ask for this information – is it compliant?

Thanks

Hi @jamjartoys

I dont have a definite answer on the multivariation listings. I spoke to one of the Ads team about it but the person who I need to speak to is out of the office. As soon as shes back I'll come back to you with an answer.

Unfortunately its the same with the second question. I escalated it the shipping team and as of yet I havent had an update.

When I get more I'll share it with you.

Thanks,

Dave

@vinylscot wrote:

Could you please explain WHY the onus is on sellers to select correct postage, as you state in post #10?

The seller DID select correct postage. eBay then changed it to an incorrect amount, and most sellers will have no idea that this happened at all, let alone that you think it's their responsibility to correct eBay's errors.

Hi @vinylscot ,

The seller changing the postage if they notice it is incorrect is the quickest option for the seller. How it is happening has been reported and is being investigated.

Thank you,

Kat

I asked a few months ago about multiple accounts coming from one seller selling the same items and was told by marco@ebay that it was against the rules. I've asked several customer support staff both on the phone and face to face at the latest roadshows, the same question to be told that was it against the rules under duplicate items. So can I ask how as a seller, to report these for actioning, because I've reported these items, I've spoken to customer support several times, face to face and via phone and even spoken to a few members of the "management team" in regards this and no action is ever taken.

So could you tell me how to report these items/sellers in such a way as to be effective or is eBay just giving tacit permission for sellers to have multiple accounts and sell the same items?

Hi custom-giftsuk, thanks for your post.

We all have clarified how the policies and procedures work, and we also encourage to report any listings or users that you believe might be against policy. However, we are unable to discuss due to privacy and security reason why an item or a user gets removed or remains active.

This very same concern has been addressed for you multiple times here in the Community, and based in your statements, we can tell you've raised this point to multiple staff member through different channels, so please note that due to all the above, we are unable to provide a different response since this has been addressed for you several times now through different channels, and your feedback has been passed on as well.

So, going forward we will no longer address the same query/topic, and for now we could only recommend to keep reporting items and users that you believe could be breaching our policies, and then we will review the report and action it accordingly.

Thank you,

Marco

Dear community team

In support of @custom-giftsuk post, last August I had an email conversation with you dave@ebay about one private seller trading on 5 accounts.
This user, with private shops, now has over 15,000 listings all with multiple quantities.
They have completely bombed one category.
Nothing has been done.

So you’ve lost my business for now, while they happily play shops and deny buyers returns, don’t adhere to GPSR or DSR.

When are eBay going to do something about users like this?

Hi @bojangled

The community team are not Customer Support so unfortunately, we can't action these reports. We pass any reports we receive over to the relevant policy teams and they will then decide on the appropriate action based on what we sent.

Thanks,

Dave

kat@ebay eBay needs to re-think this; most of your sellers trust you to get things like postage correct, and would never think of checking, or making sure that they have got it right. It's just yet further confirmation that this unwanted system was nowhere near ready to be implemented when you first tried to. It has been an unmitigated disaster, and we see no indication at all that it's going to improve any time soon. I really feel sorry for you guys having to front this up. You probably know more than we do about what an utter failure this has been.

Hi @vinylscot

I understand the frustration and while we cannot control how quick changes and improvements can be brought about we continue to share the examples and points raised by members here and on the main boards.

Any update on the "technical issue" I reported a few weeks back in regards listings in the research tab showing up as "This listing has been removed for a policy violation." when it clearly hasnt and is still on sale?

Estimated Delivery Dates In Listings and Order Confirmations

There have been ongoing discussions about this on the forum and I was just wondering if there are any updates on what appears to be misleading information for buyers and a bit of a headache for sellers? In the screenshot below, you'll see that the EDD for both the Standard and Express delivery services (basically Royal Mail 48hr and 24hr services) are the same, only buyers have to pay more for the Express service. Why would they bother?

Furthermore, with the best will in the world, it is highly unlikely that if someone purchases the item today, opting for the Standard service, that they will receive it by Saturday 14th. They certainly wouldn't receive on Friday. The earliest I could post would be tomorrow morning (the RM depot is only open 8am to 10am), the 48hr service offered by RM is a target, not a guarantee. Therefore, I usually let buyers know that it will most likely take 3-4 working days to arrive, not the 1-2 days suggested by eBay. I've even had the algorithms inform buyers that they can expect their 48hr parcel to arrive the same day! Luckily, I've not yet had any complaints, but other sellers have. I know that the tech team frequently states that everything is working as expected, but these Estimated Delivery Dates are non-sensical.

Hi mygaras, thanks for your question.

Yes, this has been flagged to us, and it was reported. The shipping team is aware of it, and we are currently working on it to get that resolved.

I will report that you are also seeing the same, but we have no further updates as of yet.
