Unless sorted by distance why do results hide the actual distance to an item?
For example results now only show "over 60 miles from" instead of the actual distance.
It was bad enough a few years ago when distances stopped showing up when browsing a category instead of using a search term. that i could put down to stupidity but this surely is malicious.

It would be nice for this feature to return. I'm happy to travel up and down the UK for the item I'm looking for, but having to search Google Maps for the location of each item is inconvenient if it's in a town or village I've never heard of.

If you use the Item Location filter to choose a radius around your postal code, you can continue to see distances displayed in your search results even when sorting by other methods than distance.
For example, a test search around MK37DH:

Although eBay tend to have an annoying habit of doing stupid things on a regular basis, on thinking about this matter in more detail I can actually see a bit of logic in eBay declining to put the exact distance to the seller's address. The reason I say this is because the total mileage from one location to another can vary greatly depending upon certain factors. When measuring distance from one postcode to another it's not as simple as just measuring the distance in a straight line and stating "Right, that's X number of miles in total", as it's never that straightforward. Given the various means of travelling from your home to the seller's home - eg: bus, train, car - and the different routes available to take for each option, the total distance covered could be shorter or longer than any estimate that eBay may choose to give. If incidents occur en route, such as accidents or road closures that result in detours having to be taken, then the total mileage covered can become even greater. Therefore, as annoying as it may seem to not have an exact guide to the total distance from your location to the seller's location, I can understand why eBay pulled this option, as the total distance from one location to another is not an easy one to ascertain for the reasons stated.
In the event that you want to check the distance from your own location to the seller's location the best option is to put the starting postcode and the destination postcode into Google Maps (that's if the seller has included his/her postcode in the item description, or provides it once the sale has taken place). Select the mode of transport you are going to use and then select one of the various different routes are offered to you in the list of options once the mileage has been calculated for the various routes suggested. The mileage will vary with each option given, sometimes by a short distance and sometimes by quite a lot.
