Sellers saying they are based in the UK but they're not

Hi,

I'm an avid user of Ebay but am also conscious about reducing my carbon footprint.  I always try and buy from UK sellers but I'm finding sellers are saying they are based in the UK but they're not.  I've recently made two purchases which claim to be UK sellers but the tracking information shows one is based in China and one is in Canada.  If I'd known this I wouldn't have bought from them but how are you supposed to know when they state they are in the UK?  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks so much.

What I tend to do is to click on their member ID/name & then click on the ‘About’ tab. This will tell you which country their account is registered in.

Also, within the listing, under where you bid just under postage you can also check the location.

I try to do both these checks, even when I’ve ticked the UK only box on the left while browsing, as some sellers may be based overseas, but use a fulfilment centre which holds their items in the UK.

Also check their feedback as a seller for comments claiming items coming from overseas or taking longer than usual to arrive.

The downside is that it all makes browsing longer & I do have a tendency to loose the will after a couple of hours.

The other thing is to look out for is a VAT charge either mentioned in the listing or seen at checkout:

The feedback page also tells you their country of registration, steer clear if it's not the UK.

Re: Sellers saying they are based in the UK but they're not

"but am also conscious about reducing my carbon footprint. "

This is such virtue signalling twaddle.  You do realise even if you buy whatever it is in the UK it's highly unlikely it was made here so the only way to "reduce your carbon footprint " is to buy less?

Posts like this make me want to bang my head against a wall, they are such utter nonsense.  I just read elsewhere about someone wanting to save the environment by not buying cheap reading glasses that they keep breaking.  I actually find it quite frightening how people parrot these nonsensical phrases with absolutely no embarrassment while I'm cringing into next month at them.

I bet they're all flying off on holiday multiple times a year and having kids though.

Hi there,Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my post.  I'm a big believer in free speech so I totally respect your stance and agree with much of what you say, although perhaps not quite the way you have said it. You are absolutely quite right about things being made abroad.  I'm all for buying British whenever I can and supporting British sellers.  Thanks again.  Take care and have a lovely week.  Sent from my Galaxy
