I'm making an offer an an item (worth around £1200). When it gives me the options to pay for the item if my offer is accepted, it does not give me the option to use my eBay balance, it just asks me to use a on file bank card or PayPal. I want to use my eBay balance (isnt that the whole point?).
Am I missing something? I know certain items/categories/things can't be paid for with ebay balance but as far as I can see this doesnt fall into those categories.
Thanks

It does say in the help page that eBay balance can be used for Best Offer purchases, however, it doesn't currently appear to be available for purchases where pre-authorised payment is required, although that isn't specifically mentioned. I'm pretty sure it will be added at some point as with the ability to use eBay balance for auction purchases.
To pay for items using your balance, simply select eBay balance at checkout. If you don’t have enough funds to cover the full amount, you can combine them with another form of payment such as a credit or debit card.
eBay balance is available on Buy it now and Best offers purchases. Auction purchases using your balance will be available soon.

Press 'eBay Help' Top of page.
Type in eBay Balance & all the information will come up on paying with your eBay balance.

Read all that previously - it doesn't resolve anything.
The problem I have is when making an offer, it asks you to select a payment method in advance if the seller accepts, but when I am asked to choose a method it only offers credit card or PayPal.

Yeah it's frustrating, it specifically says it can be used for Best Offer, but I'm not seeing any option to. It definitely isn't one of the few exempt listings either.
Even more frustrating that eBay support arent open until 8am so I risk losing this item before.

Do you have £1200+ available in your funds? If not, I'm wondering that maybe a partial payment cannot be made from your eBay Balance, the full amount needs to be covered ?
Might have to ask and confirm that one !

It's not clear from what you've written whether or not you have previously agreed to a pre-authorised payment or whether this is your first encounter with it, but you are aware that once you agree to pre-authorised payment that becomes your default method of payment for all future transactions on which the option is enabled, aren't you?
Although payment by eBay balance is not currently supported in pre-payment authorisation (it may be in the future - I have no idea) once you have agreed to it and selected a method of payment that's it for every future listing on which pre-payment is required - the payment will always be taken using the same, stored, payment method.
Although it is (apparently) possible to remove your selected payment method from the pre-payment process it's a little convoluted and not straightforward. I can't remember the steps required but there have been threads on that subject so you'd have to search for them.
Possibly the main thing you need to know, if you don't already, is that once opted in to pre-payment a number of options currently available to a buyer become unavailable. Combined postage and Click&Collect spring to mind but there are several others which have been mentioned in previous threads. Again, you'd need to search for them if you wanted more info.
If you have not already signed up for pre-payment I really would strongly suggest you find out all the pros and cons before doing so as once in not only do you lose some of the options currently available to buyers but it's also aa bit of a faff extracting yourself from the process.
Pre-payment authoriseation might be dressed up by eBay to make it look all cosy and convenient but, as with most things on eBay, you really need to have a good dig around to find out what you're actually letting yourself in for before agreeing to anything.

Completely correct, I am having the same problem. It seems that all possibilities have not been thought out by ebay. My purchase can wait or just be forgotten.

Hi All,
I have checked into the details for using the eBay balance with best offers and the functionality for this will be available from the week of the 4th of November. The option to use your balance should then show on your account.
Thank you,
Kat

I've waited til today, 4 Nov, to have another go at checking out with ebay balance but it's not even there. Shows my balance but the toggle button to turn it on is greyed out. Very annoying. Spoken to ebay about it twice and they just say they'll report it to technical team. As far as I can see it's still not working/available.

Hi @danceralison21 ,
Thank you for your post.
I have followed up with the relevant team for this and there has been a delay with the functionality for eBay balance with best offer. Due to this, it should be available on the accounts from next week.
Thank you,
Kat

Hi Kat, thanks for the reply.
Its working now for buy it now.
It seems that it was greyed out while i was waiting on funds to be processed, even tho i had enough in my balance already. Once the funds had been processed i could use my ebay balance again.
I hope its not going to happen everytime i sell an item.

Thanks for coming back and letting me know @sparty-84

Yes same problem here. How these multi million pound platforms seem to get the very basics wrong is beyond me. Who ever is in charge of payments is incompetent. Obviously this should have been sorted on day one. Yet here we are weeks after with no resolution. 🤷

Hi Kat has there been any updates yet on when the changes will be made to Ebay Balance?
Thanks Andy
