How many buyers are aware of the new Ebay Fees starting on 4th February?

I'm a private seller and earlier this year received a notification about the introduction of new 'Buyer Protection' fees. I'm also an Ebay buyer (most feedback is for purchases) but have not received ANY warning of the new charges as one. Presumably, due to having been contacted as a seller?

There is NOTHING about Buyer Protection Fees on the Ebay Announcements page, nor in Ebay News. This seems odd given that there are SEVEN times as many buyers than sellers and the initial impact of the new fees will be on them. If they're completely unaware they'll be shocked and upset at the new charges they'll suddenly be asked to pay from next week.

I've listed most of this year's items to sell in January and added a warning about the imminent price hikes but while sales have been more steady than spectacular. Even for low value items that will almost double in price next week.

Are there any buyers out there who DO know about the new fees? And how did you find out?

It's another one of those 'Hey, we're doing something great for the customer...' while behind the scenes it's actually just moving things around while using clever marketing to make it look that way.

Why can't companies just be upfront, transparent and honest?

Current business practices are disgusting. All fur-coat and no knickers.

Yeah. Free to list on ebay. So they had to make it up somehow.

But as a seller, I would rather pay for selling than for buying! I've had to reduce my prices to compensate the buyer, but they are still billed for this ridiculous BPF! So my sales have plummeted.  eBays is dying...

Absolutely- and the number of potential buyers clicking on items has dropped! The 'odd' prices have put them off. My buyers don't need protection! My feedback score is excellent and I post items immediately using Royal Mail (now I've found out how to cancel eBay link with Evri!!) So smaller items are covered up to £20 compensation anyway. Nothing has ever been lost over 20 years- except for a parcel squashed by Evri - when Hermes.

Re: How many buyers are aware of the new Ebay Fees starting on 4th February?

On your listing, look at the delivery options and Simple Delivery banner comes up - that's the 'Evri' option - just below it, it says 'Switch to advance options' - click that and then there are two choices but choose switch to advance options again, which then goes to the old style Royal Mail option where you choose your own service and price. So if you want to add a little more for packaging etc, or even a reduced postage cost, it's up to you - not eBay!!!!

Good luck!! It's just one triumph - now to get rid of Buyer Protection outrage!!!

Re: How many buyers are aware of the new Ebay Fees starting on 4th February?

I quickly learned of the fees when all the prices suddenly went all over the place and I looked for a reason why. As a regular buyer of small, low value items I have noticed that these fees can amount to around 75% price increase on an item you might have previously picked up for 99p (Not inc P&P), and it's still around 20% on a £5 sale. My purchases have dropped significantly since this rip-off started and will likely come to a halt as I look elsewhere. It's a shame, I've always been quite fond of ebay, but this takes the *bleep*.

I stopped buying early feb as I will not give EBay 75p for nothing then pay an extra 4% on final invoice. I also stopped selling as my items often started low at 99p so why should my customers have and extra 75p slapped on. EBay is a bleep bleep bleep no longer caring for the sellers or customers, is just profit to them. I took now purchase elsewhere
