Hostile sellers

Messaged a seller last night requesting shipping upgrade from 2nd class to 1st class, he chose the faff around route and I had another seller willing to do it, so I simply said "nevermind" and he responds with insults, claiming 1st class isn't faster than 2nd class and calling me a virgin for wanting RAM so badly 🤣

The listing has offers enabled so since they're willing to take a lower price for the item I assumed an 80p upgrade isn't such a big ask. The logic simply doesn't make sense to me, but to each their own and I didn't even mind the rejection, but to respond with childish insults is just unhinged. What on earth is a "melt"? And why are children allowed to sell here??

The other seller enthusiastically accepted to ship it by next day guranteed and even accepted an offer price, so they get the sale for accomodating a simple request. Such a stark contrast in the quality of sellers, I don't know how some of them are even allowed to survive on here with such disgusting behaviour towards paying customers.

Re: Hostile sellers

I agree with all of your above, and I do believe , or hope, that such sellers soon leave eBay as it's obvious that ' customer Service' skills are sadly lacking.

Coincidentally, I was asked a few days ago,  after a buyer had paid for an item to please send it asap and if it could go First Class. The difference was less than a pound. I couldn't be bothered with all the sending of a PayPal invoice or receiving a bank tarnsfer , so happily informed my buyer of course it can be posted  tomorrow morning,  first thing at no extra cost with a First Class Postage.

They were happy, I was happy I had a sale !

I think my finances can bear an 80p loss !

Re: Hostile sellers

You expect the seller to pay the postage upgrade themselves?

Why did you not choose a faster method of postage at checkout and PAY for it?

If you want a postage upgrade and the seller does not offer it at checkout this question should be asked BEFORE you bid, not afterwards.

The seller offered the sale on their terms, if you want to vary the terms you must ask this BEFORE buying, not after.

Asking for a postage upgrade and making the seller pay it is taking the pee! And the seller is right, 1st class is rarely faster than 2nd Class nowadays!

Re: Hostile sellers

To be honest I don't think the seller was being unreasonable in saying that the cost would have to be adjusted to reflect the extra cost of First Class post, as he/she stated that his/her reasons for only offering Second Class was to keep the costs down.  Given that you were asking for a postal service that the seller was not offering in the listing you ought to have been willing to pay for the upgrade yourself if you wanted to persuade the seller to upgrade to First Class.  Would it really have killed you to offer the seller an extra 80p to upgrade the postage to the service you wanted?  If you had offered to pay the additional cost yourself then the seller might have responded more favourably.

Having looked at the attachment in your post I accept that the seller shouldn't have responded with insults, but to be honest you've only served to make yourself look just as childish by rising to the bait and mocking the seller with your responses.  If you want to persuade a seller to accept your request to upgrade the postage to an option that was not included in the listing then taunting the seller certainly isn't the way to go about it!

Re: Hostile sellers

Going on the attached message thread - neithe of you come out of that particularly well.

As much as you ask what a 'melt' is - what is a Gigga brain?

Re: Hostile sellers

Umm how have I come out bad when a buyer asked me to upgrade to First class and I did,  without charging the buyer anymore, and posted the very next day instead of my usual dispatch time,  so the buyer defintiely would get their item ultra quick.

How on earth is that ' not coming our particularly well' ?

I have not asked what a melt is !

Re: Hostile sellers

You seemed to have missed my main point being their insulting communication, and chosen to hyperfixate on the (irrelevent) shipping cost?

I didn't EXPECT it, I requested it, they denied it, I said "nevermind", then they immediately insult me.

This was a Buyitnow listing I was scouring (zero commitment either side so even less reason for the seller to react like I pooped in his cornflakes) with only 2nd class option. Had the option been there I would obviously have paid the damn 80p difference and not needed to message them. 9/10 times I message a seller they accept and do it without calling me names, otherwise I move onto another.

Irrelevent, but from a buyers perspective shipping options are another sign of effort that separates quality sellers from poor ones. Most sellers ONLY offer 2nd Class/Tracked 48 and don't even bother adding express options. Most people want fast shipping, this not only hurts the sellers individual sales but also leads people to prefer shopping on that big rainforest site instead.

By "taking the pee", are you saying they were justified in insulting me? Is this how you treat your buyers? Should customers just shut up and take what they're given, or be insulted when they make small requests from sellers that earn money off of them? Ebay is a person to person trade marketplace, communication has always been a key part of the transaction. There is absolutely no need for name calling.

Re: Hostile sellers

@tressygirl I think @jonatjonatjonat was addressing the OP when he left his post, but it looks to me as though he replied to your post in error.  Don't take it personally - I don't think his comment was aimed at you...

With regards to the definitions of the insults, apparently a "melt" is an insult used to describe a person who is acting pathetically or soft over another person, whereas a "giga brain" is a slang term for somebody who is very intelligent.

Hi @tressygirl.  You were right - I missed your answer, but at the time that I was typing my response your message in post 6 was the most recent one on the thread.  By the time I posted the reply other people had responded, including jonat_broad, who had already apologised in post 8 by that point.

Re: Hostile sellers

After payment is a bit cheeky and I avoid it as much as possible, and when I do I always offer to pay the extra and certainly don't expect them to oblige, but again 9/10 times they just upgrade it for free (as you said it's not worth the hassle arranging payment etc) and I'm sure to mention it in feedback, and if they don't then it's still positive feedback as long as it's delivered on time as per order.

When selling I always oblige, it's usually very minor in cost/admin, I not only rather avoid the potential of a return or negative/neutral feedback, but I also get a sense of satisfaction going above and beyond to please my buyers. It seems many sellers on here act like buyers should only be treated with the bare MINIMUM customer service if at all 🙄

By the same token, there is absolutely no need for taunting sellers either, even if they were behaving in an insulting manner towards you.  Should it happen again try to be the bigger person and walk away without responding, rather than swapping childish comments with the seller and making yourself look just as bad.

Re: Hostile sellers

I agree, seller is of course 100% entitled to charge extra for additional demands, be it 80p or £80, but asking around isn't a commitment - I'm also entitled to look around and I found a seller willing to do it without the hassle so I simply stated my reason and said "nevermind" - that should've been the end of it, but his response was so ridiculously stupid and baffling, I was genuinely shocked and insulted at first, but realised that saying "80p difference" really set him off so I just couldn't resist engaging 🤣

Re: Hostile sellers

I agree with you on the point that you're entitled to look around to see if you can find another seller who would be willing to upgrade to First Class if the first seller wasn't willing to do so, but given the fact that you'd found another seller who was willing to sell you the item you wanted for a price that you felt was acceptable why did you then feel the need to bait the first seller with silly taunts because he/she took offence at being expected to pay 80p extra to send via First Class when that wasn't even an option on his/her listing?  To be honest it just makes you look bad - how would you like it if you had been trying to sell something and a buyer had asked you to offer a service which was not included on the listing and then started responding with childish taunts if you had declined to offer the postage service not on the listing, having explained to the buyer why you weren't offering that postage option?  I doubt if you'd have seen the funny side then...

At the end of the day, treat others as you would wish to have them treat you.
