Hi All,
I won an auction last night, but the price I won at (165 + 8 post and packing) is not the basket price (198 + 9.60 post and packing).
I don't see anything else in the basket. And can still see the individual item "won" price if I go into the item itself.
Has anyone seen this - or got a suggestion how I overcome this with the seller?
Thanks,
Matt
Did you buy from non UK seller, the extra is 20% VAT.
Ebay seem to have mucked up the arrangements.
Hi Matt
This is an ongoing eBay technical glitch. They are charging Uk Buyers VAT on purchases in the UK from UK based sellers. They shouldn't be doing it. This started about 4 days ago and they still haven't sorted it!
Ebay should refund it for you.
Add 20% to the item price and 20% to the post and packing and that's your increase.
I've just had the same with a item located in the UK but the seller registered in China.
Thank you Brexit.
This has nothing at all to do with Brexit. The VAT on imported goods valued at below £135 now has to be collected at POS rather than when the goods enter the country, that's all. Tha's a good thing, as there will be no carrier's admin fee to pay on top of the VAT as there was before. I know this shouldn't apply if the goods are actually being shipped by a non-UK seller from a UK warehouse (that's an Ebay balls-up), but I thought I'd point that out as so many folk seem to be confused by this. This change to VAT collection was arranged years ago, back in 2016, for implementation on the 1st Jan 2021, and that's what this is. That we finally left the EU on the same date is just a coincidence, but seems to be what's causing the confusion. Pity Boris couldn't have sorted Brexit sooner, or waited another month!

It won't be the seller who is responsible for this. Sellers can't change the price an item sold for.
There are several possibilities. The hike on p&p sounds like 20% VAT, but this wouldn't account for the much smaller increase in the price of the item.
If the item was purchased from abroad, eBay seems to be in a total muddle over VAT since Brexit.
It's hard to help with so little information. You may need to contact eBay for advice.
