been selling on ebay for many years , had a break and just restarted again, had a late delivery on an item which was posted out on time - the details state "postal courier indicated late delivery" - how is that my fault?, fired up to list on ebay again , cant be bothered now,- unfair to sellers!

Do you have proof that the item was posted on time e.g. receipt from Post Office?
If so just phone ebay and explain - they may ask you to send a copy of the delivery receipt.
I would not recommend using ebays system where you send them a message as I have never
known them remove one of my late deliveries when I have tried to resolve a problem.
It's good to talk so just ask them to phone you.
Good Luck

It won’t work. I have a Royal Mail account which shows exactly when everything was posted. eBay not interested.

They do remove late delivery defects now if you phone them and can prove you posted on time. All of mine have been removed.

You are very lucky, I currently have three all due to buyer states late delivery. I can’t get them removed, despite having proof of postage, just like I can’t get a negative removed on another account that calls us scammers.
Maybe it’s because you are a private seller.

No, don't think so. Just phone them in the morning and say you met all your obligations and can prove it with POP. Sometimes they ask for a copy to be sent, sometimes they don't.
