Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

I've just dropped off some parcels at my Morrisons local and they have been told by their Yodel collection driver that they can't accept large parcels any more
I asked her to explain how big a larger parcel was and she said that one that was like a large shoe box was about as big as they could take.

I asked her to find out the dimensions of the largest they could accept and where it come from.

Apparently it is the manager at the Yodel depot that has fed it downstream through the collection driver, as they are complaining they can't make any money out of it (welcome to the club)
She said that we should be told that we could still use Yodel, but we have to sort a collection instead and shouldn't be more than about a fiver a time to have them collected.

Had an issue last week where they were told me no more than 2 large parcels a day, but they didn't know if that was 2 total for the shop or 2 per customer. They are now saying no large parcels at all??

This is when we are buying labels through Packlink integrated into eBay.

Anyone else has this issue yet?

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

Hi

None of the stores around here do, they just dont have the space. I think you can drop off longer sizes at Yodel's depot (45 mins away) .

My main point is that no mention is made by Ebay that there could be a problem. They allow us to waste the time. Also there are some store keepers who are not the most patient or even polite, which is upsetting for some (probably fed up with wrong sized parcels) . Ebay really should at least advise that there could be a problem and show some concern for their customers. This thread has been going for a year and there are still new people adding on a weekly basis. It really should be improved by now. It isnt really an excuse that other companies make the same mistake is it?

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

Don't use Yodel- they are a nightmare. Evri are not brilliant and cost a
few pence more, but they have a lot of flexibility about what parcel sizes
and shapes they will accept.

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

Hi sorry to hear this is still an issue. you'll need to change the delivery provider on your ebay account. Select Other Size to set the exact size so you get the right options.

If you scroll and read further up this thread you'll see that many of us have frustratingly had to do this.  Hope you get it sorted!

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

You can cancel the Yodel parcel label in eBay if it hasn’t shipped and change it to Evri (slightly more expensive but not by much) who usually allow larger parcels than Yodel. It often depends on the drivers and your parcel size though so no guarantees it will be accepted b6 Evri shop

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

Thanks for this but how do I cancel the shipping label if the buyer bought it? The buyer paid £5.78 for the postage, is this normal?

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

This is issue is going to go on and on until Ebay edit the available post options that include Yodel. The only option for a large 1.2m x 50cm x 50cm  up to 10kg that Yodel do is for home collection and costs £7.79 inc vat .

It's Ebay /Packlink or whoever that is responsible for this.

Evri are a slightly better option at the moment.

But if you still want  to use Yodel as a seller on ebay then sell with your own delivery/currier and buy your label through topcashback via parcel2go or Yodel or even look around for the best price and sack Ebays intervention on postage off all together.

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

Has the label been supplied to you as part of this new 'Simple Delivery' that eBay's introduced?

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

What is the weight and dimensions of your parcel .

In your listing did you offer buyer to arrange postage or the default ebay suggestion.

If its the ebay default then Im sure ebay supply the label on the buyers behalf and take a kickback from the price .

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

Had you included the delivery cost as a separate item on your listing (e.g. Item £20, postage £3), or included the cost of delivery in your item price (i.e. Freepost)?

If neither of these apply, then I think it could be this new 'Simple Delivery' where the seller just states the weight and dimensions on the listing, then eBay calculates the delivery charge and includes the cost on the buyer's invoice and sends the seller a label.

If it is Simple Delivery, then I think your only solution is to call CS and explain the problem.  Call early, 8-9am - and hopefully you'll get Dublin.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but I'm a business seller and not (at the moment) being included in this new scheme so I don't know the ins and outs.

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

Ebay didn't give me an option to do free delivery or anything, so it does sound like it might be simple delivery!

I have contacted Ebay through email, so awaiting their reply.

Thank you for helping

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

Ebay take too long to reply and when they do they don't accept the problem is caused by them. They refer you to Yodel  .

I've been there several times .Now I only offer delivery by my own service ,that gives me control on who what and price .Not Ebay !

This was the exact fear I had about “Simple delivery”

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

I suppose the workings of Simple Delivery will become clearer when it's in general use (probably though posts on these boards), but I wonder whether making it mandatory for private sellers is a good idea.

As @s.e.r.grice has found - what happens if the seller needs to cancel a label and despatch via another carrier?

I used to drop off my EVRi parcels at Tesco but, at the weekend, the cages were full.  Therefore, I always sent the weekend's parcels with RM.  Yes, there are other EVRi parcel shops, but they weren't on my route to my afternoon tasks.  It was therefore time- and cost-effective to send RM rather than drive in the opposite direction to drop off parcels.

I have a feeling that Simple Delivery is like communism - it's a great theory on paper but, when you add people and day-to-day life to the mix, it starts to fall apart.

As a business seller it doesn't, at the moment, affect me.  However, I really must start serious de-cluttering and I planned to do that via eBay.  However, I can't chase around parcel shops at the behest of a buyer's whim to have a particular carrier or fiddle about with lockers.  I'll use RM, EVRi or DHL, my choice, not the buyer's - and that's it.

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

This is the response I got from Ebay…Im still confused as to what to do!!!?:

Hello Samantha,

Thank you for reaching out to eBay Customer Service. My name is Neha, and I will be supporting you today.

I see you had contacted us regarding the refund of the label charges and as why the package was not accepted by nearby courier points. Please rest assured as I will surely try my best to help you with it.

I have gone through the description of the item and the package size was within limit of 150cm (maximum dimension approved by eBay's courier services). So there should not be any problem and it should have been accepted by the courier point.

But as it was rejected and unable to post the item within time, I would request you to please check with the post office and try sending the item so there will not be any delay in delivery of the item to buyer. Also, I really appreciate your efforts in updating the buyer about it as that will intimate buyer and they will wait for the item. Thus once the item is posted, please share the correct tracking and carrier information with buyer so they will be able to track the item details from their end as well.

Now, regarding the reason for item not accepted, as this is completely managed by Packlink, I would request you to please try contacting them from below link:

https://v2.zopim.com/widget/livechat.html?api_calls=%5B%5B%22departments.filter%22%2C%5B%22%22%5D%5D...

I am positive that they will help you with the exact reason and help avoid such situations in future.

Once again, really sorry for the inconvenience caused to you and appreciate all your efforts as you have taken correct steps from your end.

I appreciate you taking the time to contact us today, thank you for your continued business. Have a wonderful day.

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

That's the same ebay get out of it reply I got .

It's Ebay who have the contract with Packlink .

Packlink seem to think they have different options than Yodel offer .

Ebay needs to sort Packlink out but they have been deflecting it for just on a year now .

Im just not sure what to do now, do I just cancel the buyers order to save anymore hassle?! How else would I send it if the buyer has already purchased the Yodel delivery label?

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

I would contact the buyer and ask them to cancel. That's if they actually bought it.

If its as I suspect Ebay buying it on their behalf to earn a % then go back to Ebay .

I would also get back to Ebay saying its you who have the contract with packlink not me .You have been told multiple times to sort out correct postal sizes and rates with packlink to stop this .

You may get a reply stating you accepted all terms and conditions by using the Ebay platform.

Honestly Ebay gave me the run around as much as Yodel. Packlink said the contract they have is with Ebay and to get them to look at it.

Never ending circles.

Everyone needs to select to use their own service going forward.

Using your own service removes Ebay from the circle and gives you control.

You still get return labels issued by Ebay with tracking however they haven't given any issues whatsoever.

Re: Parcel shop drop off sizes for Yodel issue

I think this incident has entered a death spiral.

The only solution I can come up with is that you contact the buyer and tell them that the problem can't be easily resolved and that you propose to cancel the order, using the reason 'Buyer and seller agreed to cancel'.  This, I hope, will refund the item cost and postage to the buyer.

If the buyer still wants the item (and you're happy to send it), revise the listing to include the shipping cost.  You may have to opt out of Simple Delivery to do this.  Tell the buyer the item number (or send them a link) When you receive the order, select your shipper of choice and buy the label directly from them and enter the tracking number against the order.
