As with the new move by eBay to give private accounts free listings has anyone been able to report accounts that are clearly business, Im not meaning Jeff selling his collecting but the ones that are so painfully businesses that even a blind man galloping on a horse at Leopardstown would see.
Whenever I try and verify the user it just says this doesnt match so whilst we are being asked to report these accounts the system is actually broken at the front end so god knows what the backend looks like.
You'd have thought as they knew this was going to cause some anger from business accounts trading legally that the intelligent folks in management would have made sure everything was working before launching it.

Tried to report a seller today (a manufacturer of trigger heads - selling 500 at a time on a private account) but the system failed again. There is so much work to do to 'correct' eBay. I don't have the energy to keep reporting, so this seller will continue with no fees, as will many more.
In the meatime, eBay removed some of our products because they are dangerous and don't comply with eBay policy. ALL our products are compliant (new chemical regulations for EPP from October 2023 - we changed all our formulas to comply), yet eBay didn't look at our information, they just assumed we were at fault.

Of course Buyers & Sellers report if they want too,
but
I feel that eBay should be monitoring the Sellers Accounts themselves as they have full view of what & how many items are being sold by Businesses hiding behind Private Accounts. This would make for a fairer selling experience.

I had the same experience trying to report someone with several hundred fraudulent listings. First, the form repeatedly refused to recognise the username / store name, despite it being identical. Another bug made it impossible to report the store as a whole, so I had to reported a single listing. Then, it took dozens of attempts to describe the issue as the laughably named AI kept saying the description was 'invalid'. After about three days of sporadic attempts I got the form to accept a report, and eventually I got an update. They have removed that specific listing, despite me saying that every one of the seller's listings are fraudulent. So in other words, nothing has been done. It's pretty obvious what's happening - fraudsters are making money for Ebay and they're happy for buyers to be conned as long as they're making money.

Report, report, report... It took us only 10 mins to report a seller along with eBay not taking any actions to 3 different insitutions. The more the merrier! Maybe at some points it will get red flagged and actioned on.

So, we're two two weeks on and still no fix for the totally broken reporting system.
Any update from ebay on the matter?
15-10-2024 1:26 PM
Right - a quick update. The new reporting tool can take any time to get fixed. Having just talked to EB they suggested to use a different form in the meantime:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/action?topicId=4850
In options, go to 'Other' and provide details.

Let's see if it works!

Thats the way Marco and co have been telling us to go for months/years. Due to the fact you have to report as other when it gets checked by AI or somebody who frankly hasnt got a clue its never acted upon.
As much as I understand that the community team can only say what they have been granted permission to say both them, myself, members of the concierge team and countless other members have reported a certain seller that is on a private account selling food stuff and openly admits to being a business in the about us, its still trading as a private account. That shows just how much eBay care.

A month ago I reported the non-reg food seller (George Formby song?), a private seller who had sold 900+ identical items and a non-reg watch seller, using the way Marco & Dave have told us.
All 3 are still listing as private sellers, and I don't accept that things are being done in the background because there are only 2 correct results - seller now shows as a business or they are not allowed to sell, both of which we would see.

Had to google it but yes same seller. I could understand if it was somebody with a new account and 20 pairs of trainers, then you can just send a polite email highlighting if you buy to sell you need to be a business, but its actual BS that accounts get away with selling 20k (multiples) and eBay still don't act, but yeah we are told they do actually care.

Yeah, I did think you were probably too young for the reference!

Go to an item page of the seller and click report the item. Click on fees avoidance and you can report it from there. I have just reported someone that way who has twice the listings l have and is trading under the status of private seller when clearly they are not. They are also undercutting other sellers as they have the no fee advantage. What a mess ebay have created and it will only drive businesses like mine away from the site after nearly 17 years trading there.

The new reporting form appears to now be functioning correctly and will successfully resolve a sellers name. However, there's no appropriate category to report a business seller trading on a private account, so not much use in this instance.
The seller of the following listing is another great example of a clear breach of policy : 405278559043
How many 'last one's' do they have to sell?

They can be reported on the avoiding ebay fees link, that is the one l used for a seller with 4800 items and a status as a private seller - what a joke!

I already reported them with the link you posted a couple of days ago and they're still active on the account.

Having just read the weekly chat I thought I'd better tag marco@ebay as I'm now confused, we are being asked to report and each report is being looked into but we can't report as the new system is broken and doesnt allow you to report, also please do not say report the old way as that has never actually worked and if it did why would eBay create a new system and make a song and dance about it. We are all adults here so please just give us honest answers, if you don't know why it was released broken and why they still hacvent fixed it please just say that, dont copy and paste the usual please report using other as that 100% does nto work and I have enough evidence to prove that so again please do not copy and paste a reponse like I'm a 3 year old, I and many others deserve a tiny bit of respect.
Also 17 days since the release its still broken, that is 100% not the actions of a company that are taking the law and policing breaking as a serious matter.

The new version now seems to be working as it is verifying user names
For reporting a member there are now 4 options
Threatning or abusive
Inappropriate content
Communication abuse
Intellectual Property
None of these lead to an option to report a business seller using a private account to avoid fees,
marco@ebay is this likely to be added as an option at some point?

Six weeks on, where is the progress ?
