New feedback rule

Just got the seller news for October. Basically a new rule supposedly to meet 'global regulations'. So a buyer can leave a neg, if the neg breaks the rules, they get a chance to revise it so it doesn't break the rules.

For example if they swear which is against the rules, they are invited to revise the feedback and remove the swearing so the neg can stick.

Talk about shafting sellers yet again?

It's not global rules; it's UK law. There are now very few circumstances where eBay can remove negative feedback.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Not so far back Ebay would remove the comment and leave the red dot with a "-" sign only showing.

The laws in each country affect eBay Feedback. I'm bet eBay would prefer to have consistency worldwide. At least letting people change simple mistakes might help flag up scammers better by letting genuine (if impassioned) Negative Feedback stand.

This is better than last month's change on eBay.com. Top Rated Sellers there who withhold up to 50% of a refund are no longer protected from Negative Feedback 😱 This is due to laws rather than eBay, but seems like it would encourage scammers rather than protect against them.

I'm only quoting/paraphrasing eBay in the announcement.

We’re making this policy change to align with global regulatory requirements.

At least if you get a negative you’ve actually sold  something ,they can say what they like

That already applies to all sellers on ebay.co.uk:

'From 23 April, we’ll no longer automatically remove feedback in the following two return scenarios:

  • The item was returned used or damaged, and the seller deducted an amount from the refund.
  • The seller offers free returns, handled the return, and issued a refund.'

Apologies, my comment was aimed at eBay rather than yourself. They mention "global" yet the only legal requirements covering feedback that have changed recently - as far as I can find, anyway - are the UK's. The last update I'm aware of where the EU is concerned was in 2022 so hardly recent. However, I have just discovered the US Federal Trade Commission did bring in new rules governing online reviews a year ago but I'm not sure the "review suppression" part covers eBay removing negative reviews where the buyer's review breaks eBay's feedback policy.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.
