How do I request an email verification code?

As the title suggests.  I ordered a new phone and airtime plan yesterday from my network provider.  It is due for delivery sometime today - hopefully.  In the meantime my laptop had a forced update last night and this morning requires a fresh log-in.  Unfortunately some numb-head at O2 cancelled the sim on my current phone shortly after the order went through so I am unable to log in using text.

 

Tried to log in but only option available is by text; why?  eBay's chat is as much use as a f*rt in a bottle and just comes up with the same useless un-related response however I phrase the question.  Finished with the response 'request a call-back' - doh, the phone is not working.

 

Ironically the courier O2 uses gives the delivery updates by text so I have no idea when or if the phone will arrive.  At the moment can't work effectively or carry out any order packing.

As there appears to be no solution from members can you please speak to whoever you need to in order to have the option to request a verification code by email, which used to be there, put back on my account so I can log in and fulfil orders. God only knows why it has been removed.

 

Unfortunately so much time these days is spent dealing with issues from both eBay and Royal Mail that eBay is rapidly becoming unsustainable as a business platform; especially with the dearth of sales now experienced.

Have you tried signing in via a browser and clicking the "I didn't receive the code" type link that should appear when you are prompted to enter the code? The email method is meant to be a backup in case the SMS option isn't working.

 

If you have internet access on your existing mobile device via WiFi and you have the app installed you should be able to log into the account by opening the app. There should then be a way to temporarily modify your sign-in and security details.

When you do have access again you might want to consider enabling passkeys. This bypasses the text requirement for most logins by requiring your device's unlock PIN or biometric security like a fingerprint or facial recognition.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

@4_bathrooms , thanks for the tips.  Unfortunately "I didn't receive the code" was a failure.  It presented me with a box to enter my email address which when entered only gave me the option to have a call-back ... pathetic.

 

I don't use biometrics for pass keys due to previous problems with them and the laptop in question is permanently based in my home office and doesn't have an unlock PIN set up.  As for the App I tried it some time ago and found it totally useless from a business perspective so got rid of it.

 

On the basis of no response from eBay's moderators, and no help whatsoever from the useless chat bot (which I have tried again), I am considering cancelling any orders outstanding with an apology to buyers explaining I cannot log on to the site to process them.

Well that's daft. Everyone should have 2-step verification enabled but there has to be a working (secure) backup method to SMS!

I don't use the app for buying or selling at all; its only use is for audible notifications. If you uninstalled the app but did not delete the app's data you should be able to reinstall it and access your account that way. This will not work if you chose to remove the app's data when it was uninstalled as the first login would require 2 step verification.

Thank you for your post.

 

We are not able to request specific options for account verification on the community as this involves data security.  It would be best to speak with customer support to have your account reviewed.  If you are having issues with the chat option try the contact us option here for a callback. Once you click on the "have us call you option" you can enter a different phone number if you don't have access to your current one.
