Hello all,
I am getting old in the tooth now, nearly 67.
I have tried to understand eBays Fees but I am still a bit confused.
I simply want to know if I sold an item for £10 on a business account without a shop, and forgetting postage
how much would I actually get? If it were a private account, how much would I get?
Thanking you all in advance.

We can't tell you without knowing what the item is as different categories have different business fees. You can see these on the business seller fee pages. It also depends on whether you sold it in the UK or overseas.
The one thing ebay does explain well is their fees.
There are no selling fees for private sellers for basic UK sales.

Hi,
Sorry I didn't think to put those details.
What if the item is simply a book, say a dictionary with no age, and sold only from the UK to the UK?

If I am unsure I use ebayfeescalculator.com for a quick summary, it is spot on.
It won’t tell you the insertion fees but with no shop you’re looking at 36p inc VAT to list each item, recurring every month if a buy it now or each time you relist an auction (this is on a business account).

It also depends on your seller level. The calculator will show you the variations.

You sold an average of 1-2 items per month during the last year. All of these were £3.75 or less. If you continue like this you don't need a Business Account in my opinion.

The decision cannot be made on a comparison of fees because it is a legal requirement that those who buy goods for resale must have business accounts. Ebay now takes a 10% charge on an item's grand total of Final Value Bid + Postage + any duties and levies that the buyer has to pay. Given that the National Minimum Wage is more than £10 and an eBay listing takes about four hours from research through photography and listing to packaging to posting so should produce a profit of £40 to earn the National Minimum Wage. I'm starting to think that most sellers here should not be selling here, business or private.

thats very thought provoking. never thought of it in this way . my listing times are about 3 min and pack time of of about 20 min with labels off printer with home collections. so don,t have to drive the packages anywhere . i do mine as more of a hobbie with all moneys towards my own collections. it does help though i am always listing in the same categorys

With your items it’s the disassembly and cleaning time too isn’t it. I started to take apart a 360 console the other day, omg I screwed it back together again after about 10 minutes and gave it up as bad job. As a hobby though for you I don’t think it matters too much if you enjoy doing it.

Whether you need to be a business seller should not be defined by how much you sell or for how much.
if you were buying items to sell, you’d need to be a business. Selling 1-2 items at £3.75 a month may not make it a viable business, but it would need to be a business none the less.

Hi all,
I am beginning to think that the question I asked has gone mad.
I wanted a SIMPLE answer, not the various concotions that people are coming up with.
I don't care about how much time this, or that.
I asked a very basic question and wanted a very basic answer.

Tell us your seller level then and whether you intend to promote the listing.

done about 5000 of these now about 2 min for me and about 5 min if complete strip down depends on the model of 360 some need it some do not. it,s like an auto pilot i am so used to it same with xbox one. and i get to get the junk out of the system. i.e rrod xbox that some people just reheat and sell on on here hoping it lasts past a return date . where i find them rrod i scrap them and just sell the parts and scrap the boards so that console can then not be sold on to some poor individual.

If you list something on a private account for £10 and it sells to a UK buyer, eBay will add on the buyer protection fee and will charge simple delivery postage.
you would get £10 provided you didn’t advertise or apply any additional options.
whether you need to be a business seller, well you’d need to provide more information.

I watched a YouTube video it did look fairly easy to do the full strip down but as a first timer I abandoned the full works. I was trying to fix a disc tray that won’t open, I got it opening smoothly with a clean and it seized up again after 10 minutes of testing.
OP I will just give you the numbers. You could have just used the site I suggested:
If you sold a £10 book UK to UK on a business account with no shop it will cost you £0.36 to list the item. Once sold, if you’re a top rated seller you’ll get £8.52 after eBay fees. If above standard you’ll get £8.40. If below standard you’ll get £7.92. That’s the basic figures before any postage costs of course and any additional fees you may incur if you promoted the listing, added a reserve to an auction, paid for a subtitle etc which you don’t have to do.

in this case it would have been a new drive band 50p part and that would have been done for at least another five year unclip the drive from sata and drive power cable while off take the drive out undo the four screws on drive and take the top drive cover off reconnect the drive with the xbox plugged in press eject button . pull the power plug out of the back of the xbox as touching the xbox while on can cause ethernet chip shock the disc tray should be open replace the drive band and put back together almost like new

Thanks I’ll make a note of that and have another look tomorrow. Tbh it doesn’t smell great inside at all, I’ve got cleaner ones that are ready to go that don’t seem like they have been left in a dusty loft for 10 years 😆
