EBAY SENDING OFFERS AUTOMATICALLY - AND DECIDING THE OFFER PRICE!

I presume this is the latest bright idea from the your boys and girls at Ebay HQ, but I happened to find a wee addition to the drop down box on the active listing page, the one that starts with 'all statuses', and came across what to me is a new addition (though please let me know if I'm just dense and have missed it for months or years), but I discovered I had 'with offers sending automatically (37)'.

This fresh hell means that ebay are sending offers automatically to my prospective buyers - and to boot 389 listings are affected on one account.  My first thought was that they must be picking up offers I have sent and are just repeating them - and they do seem to be doing this in some cases.  But others are all over the shop, 5% to over 20%!   I've never sent a 5% offer and I don't send 20% offers.   And removing the 'send offers' removes the offers option from the listing, but the 'offers sending automatically' is still ticked and showing the discounted prices.  So no way out - and the help pages send you to a page where they have forgotten to include this 'help'.

The ONE good idea I think eBay has done is the last 10 years and yet they need to ruin it!!  And I've worked out its going to take half a day to remove them all.

Just lately, the idea of listing my vintage stuff elsewhere is becoming more and more tempting, because its yet another eBay banana slide, already my 'send offers' page includes items that don't have the 'send offer' option, next step is just for ebay to auto send offers on everything - and they decide the discount - and what can we do to stop them?

Couple of threads on this, I had the same problem in August, managed to switch it off, but I do check every morning that it hasn't been reactivated!

I have actually given up on offers, sent 80 this week, 3 accepted.

Re: EBAY SENDING OFFERS AUTOMATICALLY - AND DECIDING THE OFFER PRICE!

From where you found it hit the big search button adn it will bring up all your listings with this auto option on.

Now comes the gind, on each listing you need to do the following to turn it off

By the lsit with it turned on you will see view offer settings, click this on one listing, and a side bar should pop up on the right hand side of your laptop screen

scroll down on this pop up to see auto send offers on, and there is a small arrow pointing right, click this

Pop up changes and blue slide button is there to turn off the auto option, slide it so it is now grey and click done

Window changes again and click the blue button to update offer settings

pop up disappears, and click back on brlowser twice to get to the lsit and repeat with the next one.

Not found a quicker way as of yet, but it gets rid of the auto send offers on your listings

Re: EBAY SENDING OFFERS AUTOMATICALLY - AND DECIDING THE OFFER PRICE!

I was very angry to find that over the last year ebay had taken it upon themselves to make offers on my behalf without me ever knowing. I enjoy sometimes at my leisure sending offers to 'interested buyers' when I need to get things sold quicker. But I don't  want to necessarily send any offers on some items, just because I have decided to accept offers when creating a listing.

And with no option to disable that when creating a listing why should I take the extra time to have to disable that on each listing?

Feels like we are stating something so obviously rude of Ebay to be ridiculous.

The implications of how it can affect users marketing is varied but is irrelevant. Once my next batch of items are sold, I'm never coming back. I won't be made to feel powerless in what should be a respectful relationship between Ebay and its users.

Sometimes I think ebay dont want us to sell any more. They do so much to make the sellers life difficult.

Re: EBAY SENDING OFFERS AUTOMATICALLY - AND DECIDING THE OFFER PRICE!

As a buyer I seem to get offers on every item I add to watch list!

I haven't bought and I do wonder if the seller knows that eBay have been "sending offers" to buyers for less than the asking price!

Re: EBAY SENDING OFFERS AUTOMATICALLY - AND DECIDING THE OFFER PRICE!

I had the same issue. Looking at my items for my sale I noticed the send offers sent option under quick filters had a 1 in brackets. Clicked on it to discover an offer sent without my knowledge. Discovered this and 2 others listings had the automatically send offers option turned on but not by me. Thought someone had hacked into my account until I did some research.

Re: EBAY SENDING OFFERS AUTOMATICALLY - AND DECIDING THE OFFER PRICE!

I noticed after looking at my listing from one account to another account that I had almost 20% of my listings (170 odd of them)  with active offers. I was baffled did i accidently do this or how did this happen ? I delibaretly switch offers off because you might as well put it on for free if you switch on offers because everyone used to reply in the counter offer with "can I have it for free please and could you hand deliver it to my door with a cherry on top ! ".

So after much deleting and cancelling of these 170 offers I was baffled, yet on my other account I sent myself offers which I didn t send from the other account with reductions I would not do so yes "ebay without asking you does definately send out random offers to accounts that viewed your listing.

My last sale was an offer I still am baffled as to how the buyer managed to send me an offer because again I switch offers off and switch off counter offers if I did send out a less than 5% offer.

And this brings me to the other biggest issue on ebay, EBAY does not support the seller and supports the buyer more. If I cancel the offer you know its gonna be hell from the buyer and my account suffers so I have to sell with the offer take the loss !

I am closing and destroying my ebay accounts after 1 buyer gave me negative feedback and I have to refund him because still ebay supports the buyers not the sellers. I wont make ebay money when I am the one generating the market for them, I used Royal Mail whose service is lacking and because of their short comings my seller account gets tarnished ? I have picture of the parcel, I have to create a database for this, a spreadsheet of stock, stock pictures, a picture taking studio, storage for packaging, accounts for the courriers and matters set up, VAT and tax accounts, accountant, storage for stock, wholesale accounts with suppliers and manufacturers, a full time assistant and ebay's customer service person cannot remove the negative feedback my ebay account received because Royal Mail is delivering parcels very slowly because the Elmswell Post Office cannot cope with the volume of mail. I have to refund the buyer because he can claim he didnt receive it because no stamped letter can be tracked. So i lost the stock, the time sorting it and dealing with the issues and paid Royal Mail for it.

Here is what I am going to do close all my ebay accounts with £85000 stock, close my pay pal accounts and sell the items without giving someone 15% - 25% of its value.

Re: EBAY SENDING OFFERS AUTOMATICALLY - AND DECIDING THE OFFER PRICE!

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but I've been stumped as to why I wasn't able to edit some of my listings and this was the reason. As a private seller I rarely use the eBay web page as for what I sell the app often suffices. However I did no even know auto offer sending was a thing as there is no option in the app to even see it. Furthermore As I have reduced the prices on some items this means that eBay were sending offers for more than the BIN price after I had reduced the item likely scaring people off. This was occurring for the last few months on about 25% of my items. Because of this setting it was locking some listings but there was no offers pending etc on the app, even though when logging in through the website there actually are pending offers which eBay has sent.

I think as a feature it could be useful as you can be a bit speculative on price and in my previous experience sending offers can result in a sale as people le go "oh a deal, yeah I want it and I like that price" but not if a large portion of the selling community don't even know it exists or don't use the website as opposed to the app.

"Furthermore As I have reduced the prices on some items this means that eBay were sending offers for more than the BIN price after I had reduced the item likely scaring people"

Yes, this was a serious error on Ebay's part, it didn't even adapt the auto offer according to our ammended BIN price, which as you quite rightly say, might completely put someone off considering entering negotiations with you.

I do believe they have removed the auto-auto offer now, could someone confirm this for me?

Re: EBAY SENDING OFFERS AUTOMATICALLY - AND DECIDING THE OFFER PRICE!

I just noticed I have automatics offers turned on.  I can't find a way to turn them off in the settings except to do it one at a time.  Very aggravating.  I was never asked if I wanted this, and I never would have agreed had they asked me.

Re: EBAY SENDING OFFERS AUTOMATICALLY - AND DECIDING THE OFFER PRICE!

@nervous-elk

I had this problem, this is eBays advice however I can’t check as I don’t have automatic offers on. I also think the search filters have changed since this help page was written…

To turn off automatic seller initiated offers

  1. Go to Seller Hub.
  2. In the Search section, select the All statuses dropdown and filter for "With offers sending automatically".
  3. Select Search.
  4. Select View offer settings.
  5. Select the > symbol next to Automatically send offers.
  6. Set the blue switch next to Automatically send offers to Off.
  7. Select Done.
  8. Select Update offer settings.

Re: EBAY SENDING OFFERS AUTOMATICALLY - AND DECIDING THE OFFER PRICE!

Is it possible to block SELLERS for what ever reason these days?

Apart from a paper list so i avoid looking at their items and stop getting offers sent to me.

spell check - no grammar check though

colour  / color - are we on ebay uk or US now - either the designers are thick or so lazy.

Re: EBAY SENDING OFFERS AUTOMATICALLY - AND DECIDING THE OFFER PRICE!

Yes, there is still a block bidders list on the overview page.  Don't forget to separate buyers monikers with a comma otherwise they don't get added.

Re: EBAY SENDING OFFERS AUTOMATICALLY - AND DECIDING THE OFFER PRICE!

I didn't even know this was happening until I read this thread this morning and sure enough quite a lot of my listings had offers enabled.  I sort of removed the offer setting the way you have said but I did it in bulk edit, clicked on 'offers' and just chose 'don't allow offers'.  Not sure if that has worked properly.  I couldn't find the way you described.
