Hello
I sell quite a bit to Germany.
Up to now this has been problem free, dispatched using FedEx booked through Transglobal.
Most of my sales contain several different items and in the majority of cases exceed the dimensions for GSP, so this is not an alternative.
All these orders are under 150 euros, German VAT (MwSt.) prepaid.
Recently I have had three buyers “double Vatted”, I have checked the bookings and the IM number is there, no gaps or typos.
HS codes used have come from the suppliers and appear to be correct.
In one case the buyer has also been charged import duties, the actual sum of charges exceeds the value of the goods. I am aware that the shipping cost is added in.
The goods are handicraft materials, all UK origin -I don’t sell any Chinese goods although some things may have imported components.
Anyway, challenging this is a nightmare, FedEx say I need to sort it out with Transglobal, they say they are just a broker.
The response I got from FedEx about the demand for vat and import duties is as follows:
“Please note that goods are no longer in free circulation between the UK and the EU. If there is a trade agreement in place, there should be a reference number associated with it, which needs to be added to the paperwork.”
I need a trade agreement?
