Cannot sell items to America due to high tariffs.

Hi,

I accepted some offers on a range of books last night, but the buyer from America informed me that they were unable to check out and buy them using the GSP.

I spoke to an Ebay rep this morning, who informed me that I am unable to sell to the US at the moment due to the high tarriffs that are in place.  She told me that she would send me a link to some information about this, but the link was not in her email.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Does anyone have the actual link or the info related to it.  Thanks in advance.

Re: Cannot sell items to America due to high tariffs.

Search Parcel2go US tariffs as I saw one of their ads the other day with useful information. Certain countries will have tariffs added but it seems for the most part the tariffs are only added orders over 800 dollars. Tariffs are calculated depending on where the item is made (country of origin)  and what the item is made from.

Might be worth looking into if you could ship the item yourself to the US. Depending on the size and weight of the item you can usually get pretty good rates to the US.

Re: Cannot sell items to America due to high tariffs.

I totally agree with you. The first I heard about the problem was when a prospective customer in the States messaged me asking why I don't ship to Ohio!

EBay are behaving very poorly in not telling sellers about important changes like this they have made. This behaviour is costing me sales.

Thanks for your input here 👍   The problem really is the GSP angle - I could ship to the US myself but I don't want to! 😃   If things don't get resolved pretty soon I may well start looking at other options (which will include moving from relying on eBay itself)

Re: Cannot sell items to America due to high tariffs.

"I could ship to the US myself but I don't want to!" - Fortunately I do, however, I have just has a buyer from the US who has been adding products to his cart and been faced with a frustrating request from eBay before he can even request an invoice.  To summarise;

First item in cart (non-GSP; no problem)

Second item (non-GSP; no problem)

Third item (GSP item but I can cope with that in a bulk order and no problem placing in cart)

Fourth Item (non-GSP, cannot place in cart and immediately receive a request to confirm his address).  He immediately contacts me to check I have no restrictions set; which I confirmed I don't.  This a frequent buyer with a long, good,  buying record who then follows with a lengthy message about the state and functionality of eBay's site, closing with, and I quote, " Ebay Needs to Wake Up and Realize this, Sellers Don't Sell if Buyers Get Aggravated, Don't Buy, and Walk Away !!!"  The buyer has been a regular buyer since 2016 and stated to me that his address has always been the same.

This happened nearly 48 hours ago to which I immediately responded with a possible workaround.  On the basis I have heard nothing back I suspect that is the end of at a least a 4 item order.  The US is my second largest sales country after the UK and it is now into my fifth day since my last sale there even though the majority of my items are non-GSP.

dave@ebay , kat@ebay   Further to the question I raised in post # 36 regarding the refunding or crediting of fees for the enhanced visibility to the USA and Canada where GSP is the only option for posting on the listing, is there any information you can share on this?  I realise you can only convey information you are 'officially' provided with but would appreciate if you could progress this.  At the moment, due to the total absence of any announcement concerning the current state of affairs by eBay we have a situation where most sellers are probably in the dark and both sellers and buyers are becoming increasingly frustrated.  Meanwhile eBay are currently happily taking fees for a service they are either unable or unwilling to provide.  In my opinion there should be a general announcement made on both the US and UK site advising both sellers and buyers of the situation.

Re: Cannot sell items to America due to high tariffs.

Just had 4 sellers go elsewhere as they have given up waiting for this to be resolved and are still in the dark as to what's going on.

Why is this information not being send out to all UK/US users!? The lack of communication from eBay is pathetic. You wouldn't know about this issue unless you visit the forums.

It's like they're going out of their way to be as useless as possible re communication and general PR. I can't see this situation being resolved any time soon.

I just sold something to the US with GSP so I guess we're back in business.

marco@ebay / dave@ebay / kat@ebay , what's the official word on this?

Re: Cannot sell items to America due to high tariffs.

What sort of shipping rates were quoted - reasonable, or still highly inflated?

Re: Cannot sell items to America due to high tariffs.

over £20 for something not very big , pretty much the same as always. The customer has decided he wants more items so I'm doing a combined listing for him,  but that's often how US buyers roll , to spread the cost of postage.

Re: Cannot sell items to America due to high tariffs.

Still no GSP to the states on any of my listings. I’ve been shipping manually with Royal Mail. Shocking service by EBay, nearly 2 weeks have past and no official announcement.

Re: Cannot sell items to America due to high tariffs.

You can still sell to the U.S. but you cannot use the global shipping program. You have to use another means of shipping . I use the Royal Mail app it’s a lot cheaper than using eBay’s alternative postage

Re: Cannot sell items to America due to high tariffs.

I have sold one lot to the US about 10 days ago. I noticed that only about 2/3rds of my listings are shown in the ebay.com version of my shop. I spoke to Ebay yesterday and they have raised at an issue with their technical team to look into it.
