The thing with cancelling as opposed to unpaid item case is the buyer can decline the cancellation request and can leave feedback.

If the buyer hasn't paid and has not communicated in any way you help both yourself and other sellers by going down the unpaid item route and giving them a well deserved strike on their account.

Why didn't it work before?

In the Sold section of My Ebay to the right of the item there is a drop down menu, select Resolve a Problem and there you get the 2 options to cancel or open an unpaid item case.  If the buyer doesn't respond to the cancellation then you have to wait 10 days to close it yourself, with the UPI you only have to wait 4 days.

Add their ID to your blocked bidder list:

and set your Buyer Requirements to block bidders with 2+ strikes in last 12 months:

If no comms do as angelan says...its getting very common these days bidding and not paying and no comms,.they have a week to pay after you open a not paid as well so its not like they are rushed....only other thing is don't cancel the case on a promise as you will lose your ebay fvf as well.

Sellers of collect only are also becoming a problem as well after buying and paying by not communicating their address (or at all).

and finally ...mods ? shouldn't this be seller central ??
