Never thought I'd see the words 'Robert Mugabe' and 'Goodwill Ambassador' in the same sentence. What a ridiculous appointment for the WHO to make. The head of the organisation say it praises Mugabe for his commitment to public health, meanwhile his opponents say the country's health service is on the point of collapse. A lot of the country's hospital staff are working without pay, in the meantime he and his cronies swan off abroad to world class clinics for private treatment as do many other African leaders.
Whoever made this decision should hang their heads in shame. His appointment has about as much appeal as Tony Blair being made Special Peace Envoy to the Middle East after the Iraq debacle.

I agree. I was thinking about posting a thread about it but thought my opinion would lead me to be too forthright.
Questions need to be asked about the motives of who appointed him?
Does "bent as a fourpenny piece" go too far?

It looks like there may be a rethink in light of worldwide protests about his appointment.
