I agree with you Lynda but having watched Xfactor auditions it is clear that my idea of tone deaf is at variance with at least a few others 🙂

Yes, but X factor is 15 mins of fame. People will humiliate themselves in many ways to get on Tv.
Most of us know if we can really sing and would we risk it at our wedding if we were not confident? Maybe she already sings publicly / professionally / in a choir
