29.04.2015 - A total of 14 mini-quakes were recorded by measuring stations operated by Spain's National Geographic Institute, which says they affected various spots in the area between Güímar and Arafo and took place during a two-hour period ending just after 8 am. The biggest of the series measured 2.3 on the Richter Scale and was followed minutes later by another one of slightly lower intensity. Geologists insisted that the increased number of tremors reported of late is a direct result of the installation of new measuring equipment in the Güímar Valley, which has led to considerable rise in the detection of microseisms. Local expert Nemesio Pérez said the tremor pattern was unusual but reminded the public that Tenerife is a volcanic island and constantly experiences activity miles under the surface. Back in January, a similar series of tremors was recorded under the sea betwen Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
