DIY peeps, can you give us a hand?

I have a tiny kitchen, nice but not a lot of worktop space so I would like to increase the work top space I have.

I have an idea I would like to do but cannot think of the best way to do it. As I have a high freestanding fridge freezer I have a spare space where an under counter fridge would be with work top over the space. What I would like to try and do is have another piecee of worktop come out either sliding out or on hinges to lift out into place at right angle from the worktop over that space, to extend my work top space.

If anyone can understand what I am trying to explain and have an idea how I might be ableto make it I would be very grateful the problem I have is how would I give the worktop support ie legs, so that they can be mobile with the top.

Thank you in advance.

I used this type of runner to construct a sliding shelf under my computer table top to hold a keyboard, which I could slide in out of the way at night. They are made of steel and very sturdy, so no reason why they couldn't support a worktop. But you would need fairly substantial strips of wood secured under your existing worktop to attach them to. I don't know if the ones in the link would be long enough but I'm sure you can get them in different lengths if you shop around.

Theres also folding brackets which are fixed to the wall then a worktop can be fixed to it

They are very good hinges, I've used similar ones myself to add a couple of drop leaves to our kitchen table for when we had company to feed. I think maybe the sliders might be better for the Op because the hinged ones would block the space under the worktop when folded away so you couldn't really use the space for anything else.

That's a very neat piece of kit, I wonder what it costs?

Thanks to you all, I'm gonna check um out and see if one of those is a feasable way of doing it. I do need to be able to do it cheaply though.
