Could someone give me some info on screws please.

I need to replace a screw that I have lost from a brand new Saber (make) jigsaw, one that holds the blade in place.

I have found I can buy them on ebay but how do I identify what size I need.

this is the screw type  

M4 M5 M6 M8 BLACK SELF COLOUR 12.9 HIGH TENSILE ALLEN BOLT SOCKET CAP SCREWS

Any help would be appreciated thank you.

Not sure if this will work but, google make and model parts catalogue or even images and you may find a picture of all parts with relevant information there.

Is there some writing somewhere on the screw, i.e. M4, 5 etc as this would indicate the screw needed ?

take the screw to B & Q type place they will replace it

I have searched local diy places and can't find them, you can guarantee if I take the screw with me I'll lose that one too 😥 I'm afraid I'm a bit like that lol xx

Hi.
As the advert said that is a high tensile bolt (8.8 indicates this) and for safety needs to be replaced with same.

If you measure the width of the part with the screw thread on it in millimeters this will tell you whether its an M5 etc, the length is fairly important, often there is no room for longer but a few mil shorter may be ok.

I dont remember B&Q having this quality of bolt,they can be found on some lawn mowers motorbikes cars trucks hydraulics etc and most engineering firms or suppliers of the type mentioned should have them.

Halfords sell a selection of high tensile steel bolts.

Helpfully they come in clear plastic blister packs so you can compare your bolt with the ones in the packs.

hi,if there is a car accessory shop or halfords near you,take your jigsaw along and try and match it with one of their bolts

As long as when you find a place that sells a screw suitable, you do not pay for the screw, walk out with it and leave the jigsaw on the counter    .

Any luck yet in finding a screw for it ?

Oh ! meant to say HDW 8.8 bolts are made from medium carbon steel and are used in many industries like the motor trade, it is really a grade mark.
