Does anyone have a nice recipe please? I have lost my recipe, it was given to me years ago by a lovely Scottish lady. I recall her recipe had golden syrup in it, egg, flour, milk, bicarb but cannot recall quanitites.
Would be very much appreciated if anyone has a recipe they would like to share

No syrup or bi-carb in my recipe
4oz self raising flour
1 rounded tablespoon of granualated or caster sugar
pinch salt
1 med egg
up to one quarter pint of milk.
Seive the dry ingredients, beat the egg with about one third of the milk. Beat the egg and milk mixture into the dry ingredients. Gradually add more milk until you get the right consistency of batter. The batter should drop off a metal tablespoon.
The amount of milk needed does vary as different flours absorb liquid differently, and eggs do vary in size.

Our family recipe:
6oz plain white flour
pinch salt
1/2 level teaspoon bicarb of soda
1 level teaspoon cream of tartar
1 tablespoon caster sugar
1 beaten egg
1 teaspoon golden syrup
150mls + 3 tablespoons milk
grease with suet
1. Sieve dry ingredients.
2. Add egg, syrup & enough milk to make a pouring batter, but this must not be thin.
3. Heat a heavy frying pan or hot-plate & grease it with the suet.
4. Pour batter on 1 tablespoon at at time, not too close together.
When bubbles appear on top of the scone & just start to burst, turn scone over & cook about 1 minute until golden.
Makes 12-14
Enjoy xxx

I have trained "himself" to make them frequently- he doesn't do a bad job - they're not as good as my mum's were though.
My Aunt Alice used to make the most fabulous scotch pancakes, even Mum's weren't as good as Aunt Alice's.
