Just tried opening the app on my android phone and get the message "this version is no longer supported. Please update to the latest version". Pressing the "update" goes to Google play but the only options are "Uninstall" or "Open" - no option to update. Pressing "Cancel" closes the app.
I suspect they pushed a new version of the app to deal with the changes introduced overnight but something has gone wrong somewhere.
Anyone else got this issue?

I don't know much about either of your devices. Do they both run on Android?
Do you know what the current versions are and the highest upgrade you can do?
The eBay app app will only upgrade on Android 10 and above.

Short answer no you dont need a new one. This us from my post earlier which gave me a basic Ebay app, I did it on Samsung galaxy J4+, I dont know if you'll get notifications like with the main Ebay app but you can still get them via email, so heres how to get a basic app, not I used the Samsung browser which basically made an app. -
First open Ebay in your web browser - once the page is loaded -(Samsung browser) click on the + symbol at the bottom of the screen and then select add to app screen/home screen (depends on the website) what this with do is create a basic Ebay app which you can access like you would the old app. You can do this with other sites aswell but depending on the website it will either create an app or a shortcut on your device.
If you are using Google chrome one your on the website tap the 3 dots in the top right corner then scroll down and click add to home screen and this will create a shortcut on your device.Personally I think the Samsung option is best as it literally creates an app that works without having a web address bar taking up space. Hope you all find this solution useful. Please share this solution so others in our situation can use it to.

So are you saying anyone with android 9 or below will no longer be able to use ebay? My galaxy 9 is an insane phone with insane storage and awesome camera, i wont be upgrading phones for another 10 years. I guess all people like me should just use gumtree and amazon?

Just to be clear - this does NOT create any sort of app - it is just like having a bookmark - the only real advantage to doing this is your browser will run full screen so you don't waste space on the address bar and you get a convenient bookmark on your home screen. It is exactly the same functionality as running the normal web browser so you won't get any notifications like the real app.

Please read through the posts on this thread. We have all had these problems. There is a lot of repetition now.
What it boils down to is, if you have Android 9 or below the app won't update. I know more about brain surgery than Apple devices. I'm pretty sure there are technical experts that know about both platforms.
It is still possible to access eBay via a browser, Mobile or desktop.
I have looked around the Internet and there are 1000s and 1000s of people trying in vain to update this app. I dread to think how many hours have been wasted. 3-4 hours of mine included.

Well it looks like eBay are going to lose a lot of their customers.

Same here.
So its going to be temu or vinted for me as I am not buying a newer tablet .
There was no advanced warning of these overnight changes, it means that items that I had on watch and was going to buy this weekend now wont be.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned elsewhere, but in case any of you (UK based) do upgrade your phone/,tablet to use the new eBay app I'd advise you look for 4G LTE compatibility at a minimum. The network providers are switching off an old antenna type across the country which was used for voice calls off memory and if your phone/SIM tablet doesn't support 4G LTE at a minimum there's a seriously high chance you would have to upgrade again and probably within the next year.
