Verify My Age just texted me on a number even Ebay doesnt have!

Just bought a Vape and was sent an email saying that I needed to go on to Verify My Age via a phone. I went on to the site from my phone, but when its stated the T&C I decided to close the page and email the seller my ID directly. About an hour later Verify My Age sent me a text telling me to verify my age.

The massively creep thing is that they texted  me on my new number, That number is about 2 months old and niether Ebay or Paypal has it. How the hell did they get access to this number?! 

I will be logging a complaint with Ebay about the seller. Has anyone else experienced this?

What is there to complain about? You give information away then want to complain about a seller who is only doing what the law requires.

I'm not sure you are understanding. I was texted on a number I didn't give out. It is not attached to my account and I have not given it to Verify My Age (or anyone else) to contact me on. No one should have this number. How did they get access to that number? Not once did I complain about the seller.

if you didn't give your number to the seller they cannot have passed it on

if you haven't given your number to ebay or paypal, they can't have passed it on


YOU accessed the site with your phone, that is how they got your number, no one else gave them your number

A site I wouldn't have accessed unless the seller hadnt requested. So in that way yes its a complaint about the seller.

In what world does the internet defend apparent data harvesting? Oh wait it's 2020

Honestly, I found it kinda shocking and came on here to find an answer, an explanation or just to give people the heads up.

it's not the sellers fault,


it is the LAW anyone selling vape equipment has to verify the buyers age,

ebay have decided to use 'verify my age'



you had to verify your age to buy that item,so you went to the site, they then contacted you to complete the process.

Silly me! I should have know that purchasing something on eBay would have my private details captured by a third party without my consent! Totally legit! I don't know what I was worried about!
