iT'S A QUOKKA - lives mainly on Rottnest Island off the coast of Perth, Western Australia. Visitors flock to see them and feed them which they shouldn't because it encourages real rats, unlike these creatures which are totally harmless. Their closest relative is the wallaby, and they - like the kangaroo, use the back part of their hind legs to sit on. They don't get any bigger. How one ended up where it was, was probably sumebody smuggled it in through customs and it escaped, or it got too big for them. Rottnest is Dutch for rat's nest which is what some daft skipper mistook them for. Giant rats my *bleep* lol!
