When is Bullying not Bullying?

Kevin Pietersen is in the media a lot recently with the release of his biography. This has led to much debate and discussion about what's within, things he's said about former team mates and claims made about dressing room behaviour and bullying.

One thing that caught my attention is at least one person said something along the lines of "Kevin was a 6ft 7inch giant of a man in stature and character, I can't see how he can have any claim to being bullied."

So my thoughts are not about this case but the implications; is it right that we should assume someone is not in a position to be bullied because they are big, tall, have strong personality? Is it only the meek that can feel bullied? Is it right to look at someone and say "bullied?, don't be daft, have you seen the guy, how can they claim to suffer bullying?"

Re: When is Bullying not Bullying?

It's the same with any form of abuse whether physical, emotional or sexual abuse

Alot of people seem to think that if you are a male you cannot suffer from domestic abuse

or sexual abuse if the other person is female or physically smaller than they are.

Re: When is Bullying not Bullying?

The old saying of "Don't judge a book by its cover" comes to mind. I've always believed that if you don't NEED something, you can't be bullied over it ,or held ransom for it. If you don't NEED People, or their acceptence, on a daily basis ( in other words, if you are emotionally secure within yourself ) then they will not be able to hurt / bully / belittle etc. etc. you. Achilles paid the price, by having one, single solitary, weak spot and certain people are very good at finding those spots. Physical size, strength and prowess are no reflection of the strength of a persons Mind...........to be lucky enough to have BOTH of course is a bonus........because when their mind games don't work and they ultimately resort to violence ( which they will ) you can "Put them to sleep" as well.Smiley Very Happy

Re: When is Bullying not Bullying?

Listening (briefly) to him and seeing what he's said about people, it seems to me that it was him that was the bully!

In my experience..... bullies like dishing it out but when their victims get the better of them, they squeal like stuck pigs and cry "Foul". I don't think he was a team player if that's what he thought of other members.

Yes I came to learn in good time that it doesn't matter what idiots think of me, I'm only concerned with how I am thought of by those that matter and those that matter are of a fairly small number!

Re: When is Bullying not Bullying?

My son is 6 foot 5 and when he was young he was head and shoulders above all the other children in his class, he was bullied terribly when he was about 6 or 7 and nobody took it seriously saying that as he was a big boy he could take care of himself.  Sadly it made him quite introverted, one of the teachers actually saw this bullying one day and appologised to me and my son, the ringleader was actually the smallest boy in the class.

Re: When is Bullying not Bullying?

Yes I'm afraid it's usually those who stand out from the norm that are bullied ie tall, speech impediment , overweight, clever, & the list goes on, children who bully turn into adults that bully Usually cowards but mainly because of their own failings! .

Re: When is Bullying not Bullying?

lol, tickles me how some can talk of bullies and bullying as if they are perfect themselves.

I think it comes down to how we as human beings should treat our fellow man regardless of race cread colour etc. We were all made equal so should treat each other with genuine respectful equality. The only one to determine those standards then, would have to be someone other than man himself, to make it so.

We then have a responsibility to look at ourselves and really ask the question am I a bully and work towards making sure we are most definitley not. Making sure we know what standards are set and by whom and follow those standards.

I personally know there are standards that have been set and by whom and accept that each and everyday I have to work at meeting those standards. We were all made equal so in that same sense non of us are perfect.

Re: When is Bullying not Bullying?

Not seeing eye to eye on a subject doesn't make one a bully! When genuine questions are asked & the answers are not forthcoming or evaded& that is pointed out it is a normal response.Tommy's Giff is correct!.

I wasn't directing my comment at anyone in particular, just making comment, yours was the last post to post a reply on so your name showed. I was making a general comment.Smiley Happy
