Yesterday afternoon a single female Osprey returned to the Loch of the Lowes in Perthshire. She has made the trip from Senegal and immediately made herself at home. No sign as yet of the male bird who arrived on the 22nd last year but if you are interested please check out the loch of the lowes webcam. Last year there were three chicks raised, two were fitted with satellite trackers to follow them in their amazing journey back to North west Africa. One bird is missing having ceased transmitting late last year while it's sibling remains and has been photographed by members of the Rutland Osprey team. I am hoping to get some first hand pictures of the birds fishing in a few weeks time but for now let us enjoy these marvels of nature.

This is interesting, it would appear Monty is going to have a busy summer keeping both his wives happy.
Let us hope one of them doesn't fail.

Quick update on the progress of Ospreys at the Loch of the Lowes, All three eggs have hatched and the parents doing really well looking after them despite many challenges.
Meanwhile and to demonstrate how precarious things can be, two chicks from a clutch of three in Cumbria have been predated by Magpies, despite the power and presence of two large raptors the Magpies managed to fool them into dropping their guard.
At the rate they are going Magpies will take every other living bird, that's what happens when natural order is compromised.
