Sir Jimmy Saville

No thread about this on here, so I thought I'd start one.

My starter for ten is this: Okay, I'm not saying anybody is making anything up, but why did all these people wait till he was dead before accusing him of all this stuff? And quite frankly, now he's dead, what can come from it other than tarnishing a reputation that was spotless and upsetting his grieving family even further. Seems basically wrong to me. Why does someone always have to bring down our heroes and role models? They should have done what they're doing now ten years ago or not at all if you ask me.

Re: Sir Jimmy Saville

It isn't a matter of whether any payments can be afforded or not 😐

Exempting the BBC from claims for damages would set an unholy precedent.

Once yo exempt one body there is nothing to stop other organisations being granted similar immunity - councils, police, health services, government departments, banks, social services etc.

Any claim for damages has to be just that, "for damage".  Any claimant would have to prove a number of key points including the most important of all that they have suffered damage, either emotional or financial.  They would then have to show that the damage had been caused by an employee through actions that were either criminal or negligent.  Finally they would have to show that any reasonable employer would have systems in place to either prevent such occurences or would have taken action to mitigate the dmage once they were aware of them.

Some may be tempted to make spurious claims for financial reasons but there is a huge difference between making a claim and proving it.

Re: Sir Jimmy Saville

My bet is that its insurance that will pay, not the BBC itself,  its the same as when the NHS is sued and people worry about the funding. All establishments have insurance so its that which will pay it out.

The women have probably been contacted by the type of solicitors who send txts out asking if you had an accident all the time. The women shouldnt be judged by whether there is going to be financial gain or not, my money is on the fact that lawyers have jumped in and contacted them.

Re: Sir Jimmy Saville

The world and his uncle seem to be lining up to distance themselves from Jimmy Savile - OP please note Savile is spelt with one "L" not two.

Interestingly though, the one set of people who are NOT distancing themselves from him, ARE HIS OWN FAMILY.

WHY NOT??  If Jimmy Savile was my cousin and we shared the same surname, I'd be outside my solicitor's office three hours before it opened to tell him to change my name by deed poll!

Would you, or would you dine out on the notorioty of the name like Kray or Richardson?

Re: Sir Jimmy Saville

Jimmy Savile a visitor to Chequers for 11 straight years for Maggie Thatchers New Years eve parties.

How many of the people who he rubbed shoulders with there, were the same People , who later blocked internal investigations into Saviles behaviour

Re: Sir Jimmy Saville

Yesterday Edwina Currie was on the BBC , going on about, Savile and the BBC , going right for the Beebs jugular.

Well one of things People have been wondering was, who gave Savile TOTAL access to Broadmoor secure Hospital. Ex patients are among the People reporting they were abused by Him there.

Yes you've got it,

It was Edwina Currie, who OK'd him as a volunteer. As well as access, he became , a  kind of 'entertainment officer', and held girls only Parties, with no staff present.

He was even put  IN CHARGE of the whole  Hospital during an Industrial dispute, for a short time.

The BBC investigates itself tonight. Panorama 22.35 pm. This Savile Saga could run longer than the 'Mousetrap'.

Re: Sir Jimmy Saville

This Jimmy Savile saga is in danger of going into overkill.  Like eating an acre of marsh mallows, most people will tire of the whole thing.  I certainly won't be watching it.  Like The Mousetrap, once you know the plot becomes bland.

According to the Daily Mail, "victims" of Savile are now going to claim for compensation running into millions.  We, of course, are going to pick up the bill for it, so Jim is still fixing it, this time for the barristers!

I doubt it's very "bland" for his victims who have had to live with the results of his abuse for the last 30-40 years...

The BBC's insurance companies will pick up the compensation tab.

According to the Daily Mail, some victims have talked to lawyers.

The rest is pure speculation.

Re: Sir Jimmy Saville

Sorry MrS

I was just repeating a tweet about him resigning

some ot the things coming out now, he and the Director General Entwhistle, will both be looking for new Jobs.

The BBCs Panorama show was damning for both of them.

But the furore about the Beeb must not be used by the Tory party ( their pals in the press) or other Public bodies to cover their own involvement in cover ups and inaction.

and be wary of any Murdoch owned outlet, using this as a weapon in their continuing War with the BBC
