Are we talking about new fur coats or vintage here.

I do actually prefer seeing the original animal wearing it, as opposed to the one that acquired it.

If we eat the animal we might as well wear it. Most of us wear leather shoes, so what is wrong with a rabbit or sheepskin coat.

If we are talking exotic furs it's a whole different question in my opinion.

I see what you're saying, although how you set the perameters is going to open up a can of worms.  I'm no vegitarian, but why a Cow / Sheep should have less right to live than a Giraffe / Tiger / Bear / Lion.........is an arguement / debate I can't hope to ever win or even argue; with any degree of logic.

I suppose I would only look at which animals are bread already for consumption in the Western world.

If it's about keeping you warm, then a sheep skin will do a perfect job and we don't need to kill a tiger for that.

But as you say, it 's an argument that I also can't hope to ever win.

Down to numbers I guess - stop eating cows and they'll become extinct - start eating Tigers and they likewise will become extinct.

Good luck fanfounette. Every little helps.

Sadly I think ethics and morals have gone out of the window, furs and skins have been making a come back lately, promoted by stars and especially Victoria Beckham who thinks nothing wearing a carcass that has been stripped from animals while still alive.

You may remember a handbag designed by her was made from crocodiles that were skinned alive. The £18,000 'super bag' had been launched for sale. I understand the reason they are so dear is because so many young crocodiles are skinned from the softer underside of the lower jaw. It is such a shame that in the 21st century people still rely on products as a luxury.

Even that lot at Westminster could have accepted artificial fur for their peerage gowns. But no, they want the same as the rest of the overdressed clowns (real ermine). So the slaughter goes on and on and on.

Hmmm... yes, well, you've touched on a very emotive subject, but try not to shout - using capital letters.  While wearing a leather jacket is deemed acceptable, the same as leather/suede shoes are quite the norm, this is because very much the entire animal is used right down to a sheep's lung which although we do not eat, is used to make cat/dog food where health/hygiene  checks are very much in operation, although we ourselves don't eat it, it is quite acceptable as pet food.

Virtually every gram of an animal in this country and America gets used where even the bones get ground down to make fertiliser.  You think nothing of having black pudding or adding a few Oxo cubes when making a shepherds pie and yet you'll baulk at the sight of somebody gliding out of a Bentley wearing a full length mink coat.

I know exactly what you are saying.  We are talking about exotic animals here.  While neither my wife nor I would ever wear a mink stole or a leopard skin jacket purely for the reasons you state, FAUX fur in my opinion is quite acceptable because of it's warmth, texture and aesthitic qualities and here lies the problem.

Many years ago a trip to the West End was ruined.  As we came out of a theatre some stupid young girl decided to take it upon herself to start waving her arms and start ranting and raving at my wife "for wearing a fur coat."  I told her in no uncertain terms that she had made a fool of herself to which she mumbled "Well, I didn't know - sorry." and slunk back into the crowd she was with.  Sorry or not, she ruined our evening.  My wife took it off once she got home and has never worn it since.  So please, PLEASE, THINK before you become one of these people who take high moral standards and shout their opinions from the rooftops.  I personally wouldn't even buy my wife a coney (rabbit) coat.  For me, FAUX fur is every bit as good, and preferable, to "the real thing".

O.K?

If you must, there's plenty of second hand ones on here from £20 upwards so they are not hard to afford unless you insist on new.

Isn't it nice that they clean all the blood off the fur before they make the coat.

You have such pleasant way of putting things Iittle - PUT - nut !

'New would be nice and clean and only pick up your personal SMELL, clean of course'. Really?

Had you been skinned ALIVE you would know that?  Trial and error perhaps. If only?

In China at their markets they ram rusty old tin cans on dogs heads so they cant bite, and hang them up by a rope to skin them alive.

The Chinese government has No ''welfare'' concerns for animals. People can do what they wish. And quite frankly I think the Chinese government STINKS !!!
