Isn't religion just another manifestation of OCD?!

Repetition and rituals gone through to make one feel they have a handle on things!

These people need help!

No arguments there Caution - very much reinforces what I was saying - the Romans didn't impose their religion on lands they conquered for one very simple reason - they needed the local religions and beliefs to help subjugate the local population. Judaea being a prime example. This demonstrates that the governing bodies of civilisations such as the Romans weren't trying to impose religious beliefs on the population for non-secular reasons but using religion as a tool and a weapon.

l'd read it slightly differently.  The Romans didn't need to impose their gods cos they had sufficient control without bothering.  Their policy was to rule lightly from afar.  It is only relatively recently (Crusdades onwards) that invaders have used religion as a weapon and a means of oppression.  Now as over-population threatens such things as access to oil, fresh water, etc, everything has gone up a gear.

The one saving grace currently is that there is more than one religion out there.  If there was just one, the chances of being forced under its umbrella would be high ... and the consequences grave for humanity.

This Pope Francis might be a kind of David Cameron equivalent.  He has no real principles, but just wants to stay in power.

So he will say anything which is popular,  to keep himself in power.

Perhaps there should be a rival contender for the Papal Office. Like a Jeremy Corbyn-style fundamentalist, who doesn't wear a tie.  Could the Pope follow Corbyn's example.  By divesting himself  of Papal sacramental robes, and going on telly dressed in a t-shirt and jeans.

Or would that explode the Pope's image.

Eve Has a Chat with God "Lord, I have a problem." "What's the problem, Eve?" "I know that you created me and provided this beautiful garden and all of these wonderful animals as well as that hilarious comedian of a snake, but I'm just not happy." "And why is that, Eve?" "Lord, I am lonely, and I'm sick to death of apples." "Well, Eve, in that case, I have a solution. I shall create a man for you." "A man? What is that, Lord?" "A flawed creature, with many bad traits. He'll lie, cheat, and be vain. All in all, he'll give you a hard time. But he'll be bigger, faster and will like to hunt and kill things. I'll create him in such a way that he will satisfy your physical needs. He will be witless and will revel in childish things like fighting and kicking a ball about. He won't be as smart as you so he will also need your advice to think properly." "Sounds great," says Eve, with ironically raised eyebrows, "but what's the catch, Lord?" "Well, you can have him on one condition." "And what's that, Lord? " "As I said, he'll be proud, arrogant, and self-admiring...so you'll have to let him believe that I made him first, and it will have to be our little secret...you know, woman to woman!"

now reading this persons version of what the end means is odd..as it says what to do to survive...ok if we all do as we are told and follow the letter...then there is no end is there, as everyone survived so it should be what is the end that doesnt end during the war that god intends to reap on humankind yet no one to war against as 'HE' has taught us the way to avoid the end , I take it HE means to end all those who don't read the book and know how to survive which is a bit selective and controlling as there is one way or face wrath ...which in turn is OCD.

My god ,jesus christ ,heavens above has been touted as blasphemous by those that sing the words every chance they get ..I mean its potty and lunitic and bonkers to want to write stuff down that may make a person fear an army of flapping do gooders ..tint it

Oh no! Not another end date. Smiley Frustrated

Is this 7th October according to GMT?  In which case we have just 7 and a half hours left.  I might as well eat my entire bar of plain choc marzipan Smiley Tongue and open a bottle before the sun goes down over the yardarm.

Cheers everyone   smileys-cheers.gif

Just when are people going to realise and accept that barring collisions with other large objects from space, the Earth as we've known it is going to be around for another 5 billion years. Man won't be around then but the Planet certainly will.

How'd we know? We've observed the cosmos for long enough now to have worked out that it'll be the expansion of the Sun (as it dies) which will fry the Planet.

There won't be an "end day" as such, it'll be a slow, gradual process.

However, if a sufficiently large space object headed our way and collided, there'd be an "end day" of sorts depending on the actual size of the colliding object. If it was big enough, he whole Earth would be a goner.

It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.

The bible doesn't give a specific date, It only states this present wicked system of things will come to and End, that is wordly governments,  the planet will exist forever.

We are given certain signs to watch out for, and one of them is that the wordly governments will turn on religion, we can see that starting to happen now.

The Planet will NOT exist forever.

As I've said many times, the Sun will eventually consume it.

Even before that happens, CD, the planet is cooling. It used to be molten, then solidified with volcanoes everywhere and noxious gases and cooled to a point life could exist. Cooling of the core is continuing, and eventually it will end up a cold rock. Simplified, I know,  and a long term prospect, but life on Earth is doomed, doomed. It's just a question of what comes first.
