WOMEN are turning to prostitution to feed their children as welfare reforms hit the poorest and most vulnerable families in Hull
.
Staff at the Lighthouse Project, a charity supporting street workers in Hull, have seen a increase in women turning to prostitution as unemployment rates soar and benefit cuts take hold.
so that’s what Osborne, Cameron and Clegg meant when they said work should pay
Prostitution for our countries young mothers

What the real truth is ... they spend their money on cigs drugs booze... so they sell their bodies for more money to pay for a Greggs breakfast for their kids....

'Mothers in Hull selling their bodies for food'
I've seen some of those mothers from Hull...there's quite a lot of meat on some of them. Can I order a leg?

I don't see anything wrong with prostitution . These people are free to make a choice in life .
As a nation we have adopted a life of leisure a bit too readily , and now we face steady decline and wealth erosion .
It would not surprise me if Britain became location , in the sex tourism world .
After Britons have been going to Thailand for decades .
why should some people be permanently poor and others wealthy , ?
Its only right and fitting that each country gets a "kick of the ball "

You have an actual, highly visible social problem here, and it's one that will not go away unless everybody starves. The fact that people are poor does not mean that that they are on drugs or booze - it means that they are poor. Prostitution is not the issue - poverty is.
You have X number of people in your country, and Y number of jobs or possible jobs. When Y is less than X, you have a problem. In fact, you have many problems.
England was once like Japan - a country with few natural resources that took in supplies from over the world and bloody well MANUFACTURED things!
Here in America, we're encountering the same problems ourselves - and it's terrifying. The two main exports from our country are money and knowledge. This is not good.

reno ...... I honestly mean no offence when I say this but your problems, as a nation, don't look too bad until you consider that your second largest import is Mexicans. If you can make that your 10th or 11th biggest import, you may have a fighting chance.

It's the oldest profession under the sun, I call it inginuety, they have found a way to feed their kids, good for them, I'll bet it goes on in other cities as well. We, unfortunately, are the whipping boys of the north and any hint of anything untoward, and everyone gets to know about it....That's life jim as we know it.

Hi Stevie! I've always maintained that the best way for our country to "solve" the Mexican immigration problem is simply to revamp the Mexican economy so that hard working people don't have to cross the border for decent jobs. That sounds easy, but actually doing it would be terribly difficult.
Consider Africa - if one country in Africa were prosperous, the people from the remaining starving countries would overwhelm it. With Africa, to save one country, you have to save them all.
Geography has a lot to do with it too. Show me a first world country in the Equatorial belt...

Mothers in Hull...
Are you sure they are not refugees from the paradise of Euroland...
Euro crisis has left Spanish families sleeping rough in UK...

The so called Hull proplem,I'm sure is not just confined to Hull.
But the poverty situation is a little frightening.
In some cases, (I stress - some cases) It really isn't true poverty, but an inability to manage finances, and decide what is really important.
What some people call necessities, others may label as luxuries.
A roof over one's family's heads, food on the table, and a cosy dwelling place.
Then the children's welfare and education. They are the necessities.
The latest hi tech gadgets, mobile phones, even multiple TV sources, (Freeview is adequate enough), as well as designer labels, cigarettes and booze must be dropped.
Then of course, feeding one's family cheaply does not mean, KFC, Pizza Takeaways, Doners, or other Fast food alternatives. It can be done so much more cheaply, and nutritionally. But unfortunately, if it doesn't say chicken nuggets, or is not microwaveable then it can't be considered.
Of course, I am not labelling all, as unable to manage, but the few you see interviewed via the media, always seem to have a packet of cigarettes, and a trendy mobile phone on them. What else? one wonders.

its up to them surely
?
thats part of living in a democracy , where people are free to make a choice (so long as it does not harm others )
Surely some Young Mother (or not so young or Father even ) who chooses prostituition ,as an alternative income stream
Is only to be applauded , as they are using their own initiative , and drawing on their own resources (good looks and good body presumably , with a willingness to please others ) .
its all postive as far as I can see , said individuals will be taking care of themselves(amybe enrolling in a gym ) to maintain their fit looks , as well as helping sexually frustrated people in the UK , who have had no recourse but head for Thailand etc , whilst needing to satisfy their sexual needs .
I would also like to see any incomes accrued from said activity to be declared , to the tax man , allowing for all non taxable expenses deducted .

"t doesn't matter how much money some people have if they have no money sense then it will always get spent on the wrong things.
What makes me so mad is some of these people are poor before they have kids why on earth bring a child into your own poor life when you have nothing at all to offer them"
Why would people living on the minimum wage bring a child into their own poor lives when they have nothing to offer them?
Try love

Try this! Have someone rent a big empty building in Hull and open a garment factory, a sweat shop, if you please. Advertise for lots of jobs at minimum wage. You'll find that a lot of women will do that instead of the prostitution. In fact, they'll jump at it (no pun intended). Eventually, the prostitution will lead to diseases. In fact, why not open two sweat shops, or three.
Like I said before, at one time the British were known as a world-class manufacturing nation. You still can be.

We still are a world-class manufacturing nation!
The difference between now and the early part of the twentieth century is that we don't employ millions on a subsistence level remuneration in the manufacturing industries.

Hello upthecreekyetagain!! I am most gratified to hear that, particularly since I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the British! Your people have demonstrated your courage countless times.
Yet, perhaps you should create some sort of employment allowing people to work at a subsistance level - or perhaps a higher level. My thought was to get the ladies off of the street and onto the payrolls.
I have to admit, however, that I have little understanding of economic matters, and some of my "suggestions" leave people bewildered. When we lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, for instance, I once suggested pllacing a row of slot machines in the drive through line at McDonalds to give people something to do while waiting for their "food."

I'm just slightly uneasy of your American perception, that we are a nation who's women rely on prostitution, because there is little other work here.
Build Sweatshops indeed!!

I remember reading,I think it was in the 70's that New York was having financial troubles, during an interview with Frank Sinatra the reporter asked Sinatra's views on the subject,he said something along the lines of : I think the hookers of New York should get on their backs to help put New York back on its feet !
