Catholic League President Attacts Murdered Cartoonists: Charlie Hebo 'Perverts Justice'
While journalists and free speech advocates across the country rally in support of free press following the murder of twelve French journalists at Charlie Hebdo this week, the leader of a U.S. Catholic group is blaming the satirical newspaper’s staff for “the kind of intolerance that provoked this violent reaction.”
In aBlog post Wednesday and then a follow-up post Thursday, Catholic League President Bill Donohue said the cartoonists’ “obscene portrayal of religious figures” represents an “abuse of freedom” — missing the fact that the First Amendment to the Constitution in the U.S and a similar law in France both guarantee freedom of speech and of the press.

He has been on American TV over the weekend, defending and repeating His stance

Anyone watch BBCs Dateline London ?
A regular contributer, Nabila Ramdani, an award-winning French-Algerian journalist, was on this weeks show, She showed a major stumbling block, in even intellegent Religious People
She said, she agrees with free speech, but not where Islam/Religion is concerned, it should be a special case
She said this should even be the case in a secular country like France.

I watched some question time sort of thing yesterday, Nick someone, can't remember his surname.
The question was 'Does free speech give us the right to offend?.

.... I don't think Muslims go far enough in killing people who draw images of the prophet Mohammed. I think they should kill people who are named after him as well.

Bill Donohue is his own little Catholic group who does not represent Catholics in America or anywhere else, he once said that all atheists should apologise for Hitler which rather shows the extent of his twisted bigotry.
As for those who think God is looking after us I would like to see just one positive example where it can be shown that has ever happened throughout human history.
At best it can only be said thet God watches all the bad things that happen and the best he can offer is to kiss it better after we are dead.

No one has the right not to be offended though they may have the right not to be damaged by hate speech.
There is a difference between that which might give rise to hate with all that may entail such as violence and speech which may lead to criticism.
There is no good reason for religion to be a special case.
If one person acts according to a voice in their head they may be thought of as mad, if 10,000 all have the same, it's called religion.

Aahhh....the absolute certainty of the brainwashed! It seems to me that hope and belief in a Resurrection is not so different from the hope and belief that these terrorists have that they will be presented with 40 virgins if they die as martyrs. It all involves a degree of brainwashing. And it's a bit patronising and condescending to address me as 'my lovely'...as if I am some poor creature who just doesn't understand. I may be a senior citizen, but I still have all my marbles, and can think and reason for myself...hence my total disbelief in any God.

I heard that 72 virgins was a misprint .... it was one 72 year old virgin.

What's so special about virgins?
Personally I'd prefer young women with some experience.

I promise you, the dead are not bothered about sex, with virgins or anyone else.

And there was me thinking about becoming a Muslim.
That knocks that on the head then..

Saw Billy Connolly about 5 years back and he said just what you are saying -
"72 virgins - that's not a gift, it's a punishment. You'd have to talk to them and what if they were all Duran Duran fans, Jesus. Give me 2 fire breathing whores any time".

If it wasn't so Pathetically Hillarious, it would be sad beyond belief; promise somebody EVERYTHING, but they can only collect after they're Dead.........I can imagine the Bloke in the complaints Dept. or the S.N.A.D Dept must be bored to tears.........even suicidal. I bet He thinks, because He hasn't had any complaints, it must be absolutely brilliant.........OAF !!

I always find it curious how some Christians say that an atheist must have a pathetic life with no purpose and nothing to look forward to when they are the ones who believe they were born miserable sinners who have to spend their life begging for forgiveness in the hope that they will go somewhere wonderful when they die.
Somewhere that no one has described in any detail and what descriptions there are don't make eternity in such a place sound particularly inviting.

“It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.'
As if that gives them certain rights.
It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.'
It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase.
'I am offended by that.' Well, so what."
