The Vatican has attributed a second miracle to the late John Paul II clearing a key hurdle before he can be declared a saint, it was reported today.

The Holy See has yet to reveal what the miracle was or where and when it took place but Vatican sources said it would 'amaze the world'.

Reports in the Italian media suggest it concerns the 'extraordinary healing' of a Costa Rican woman who was cured of a severe brain injury after her family began praying to him.

some are classed as stupid for believing in extraterrestrial life, but then we have people who belive in a magical god who just waves his hands and the whole of existence is borne.

Yes Pete... but if there was no real God (which there probably ain't) then people would invent one anyhow.

How do you account for all the different beliefs otherwise.

Nearly all gods were seemingly invented by the writers of mythology, as I think that that is where a lot of religion stems from.

imho a god is a being in the belivers mind for those things that cannot be explained.

i.e. hmm I cannot explain that, ah I know it was a god who made it.......that's a far easier way to explain than reasoning.

Im not a catholic (or as my bro say 'Cat O Lick').  I think Pope John Paul II was a great man who had great faith and he did the job all popes should do which i think is make people beleive in God and Jesus.

I know not everybody beleive in God and Jesus but Pope John Paul II hopefully made people think.

I dont know the name of the new Pope yet as I havent heard much about him.

Maybe if he said more to the catholics and everyone as Pope John Paul II did then I may get to know what he thought..

and its thanks to the pope and his views on condoms and birth control that the birth rate in some catholic African countries has risen to that of which their country cannot support or feed them.

My mate tells me that the Pope has dozens of cats of all colours and breeds wandering around the Vatican gardens. It seems that the Pope is a Cat-a-holic. :^O

I am not Catholic, but John Paul II was outstanding!  He was a vibrant, compelling world leader and head of his church.  No matter what else anyone may say about him, there is one thing about him that was obvious - he truly, totally, passionately believed in what he was doing and what he was saying.  He was certainly the most influential person who walked the planet since Gandhi.

There have been many people who passionately believed in what they were doing and had a great influence on others but not necessarily for their good.

His rulings on the use of condoms in the fight against aids in Africa probably led to the deaths of a great number of people along with the creation of possibly millions of orphans and in my personal opinion he should be condemned for it rather than being canonised.

Quite Pete, I think with some things, the more they are said the better.

Miraculously 'cure' a couple of people and become a saint, at the same time, stick to dogma no matter what and be complicit in the misery and death of millions and see that brushed aside.

That's why I have nothing but contempt for the Vatican.
