Government scraps official food bank figures

With so many people using food banks, why has the government stopped official collecting of information on their use?

Well lets get rid of this government then we will not need food banks

and the Government certainly doesn't want the Public to know the whole horrible truth

Major reasons why people go the food banks are benefit changes and delays, the oncoming Universal Credit being paid a month in arrears, is obviously going to greatly increase the number, it is that increase which the Government wish to hide.

Standard practice, you stigmatise those affected (Michael Gove) and hide or disguise the figures.

I dont use food banks....however I am one of the unfortunate ones on JSA and it is so hard to find employment but I do have to rely on my family and friends to help me out with the food shopping. Family tend to buy stuff when it is buy one get one free and I get the free one. This is as near to using a food bank without actually using one. I have to shop at the end of the day to get the knock downs. It is horrible but I am very quickly learning how to feed good food on a low budget. The other week I got 500grams of mince beef for 18p so was able to eek out four meals on that meat (freezing what was not needed). It is not nice to have to chose all the cheaper options ie value range but needs must....

 I fail to see anything distressing in using food banks, in fact I see the postive side of it , in tht families are leraning that cooking their own is better , and whoever cooks is learning the importance of not wasting food , and using their imaginatiosn all the harder to conjure up , tasty fresh and nutritious recipes .

 its a win win situation

 Prior to  this Goit tackling institutionailsed sloth and dependency , many millions of tonnes of food was being wasted , or thrown out , and many people on benefits , were  far too comfortable with their home comforts , they were less willing to brave the great outdoors , and put themselves about for work .

 By a age old method of carrot and stick , this Govt is tackling hte dependency crisis , the obesity crisise , and the sense of entitlement , which has been a curse to the British working class , 9and is largely the reason ,they lost so many economic wars to the competion in Germany and South Korea   .

spouting nonsense yet again ,there has to be more inside people than this shallow outlook towards others,then things would change.A successful person doesnt spout rubbish about others ,like an mp,or celebrity cook or an over opinionated ebay seller ,they creates a world where more than just himself or herself prosper.

Others are just selfish and thats the scourge of english society since thatcher.

 I have only just returned form a shopping trip , where I have purchased a bag of Steak cut oven chips , for a 71 year old vulnerable person , who has nothing to eat ,

 Sadly his £400 a week benefits do not stretch far enough , what with ever rising eelctricity prices , Mobile phone charges , Vet bills and related costs to keeping 2 cats . Oh did I not mention a Boyfreind who is a heroin addict to boot !

 Money soon goes when you are the front line oppressed in this vicious and cruel world .

 Anyway he asked me this morning for" a loan of money , to buy baccy and coffee etc "

 I refused , as he had £135 on Monday gone , and £350 last Wednesday (monthly DLA )

.

 Instead I saw it in my heart to throw a bag of frozen chisp at this front step , a fighting tribute to a veteran of Thatcher's War againt the British working people .

When I see working class people , tending their back gardens , growing vegetables , keeping a compost heap , all the things they used to do .

 Then I will know that the working clas are fit for purpose again .

see thats where we differ 🙂 I dont see working class ,I see people ,and people who are forced to live in a society where there are not enough jobs to go round makes anyone from any (class) as you like to lable,potentionally vunerable and in need, from the sick and disabled to the unfortunate being labled lazy because ..well because what you think in a nutshell.

you've used that person as stick to beat the jobless before and we said at the time, that person is vulnerable and needs to be looked after and protected by Social services ( totally swamped by the new Tory policies, while getting their budgets cut). A drug addict is STEALING their money.

 thats where we differ AL , Why bother with more jobs for social workers ? just cut his benefits , to something sensible like £200 a week including rent , and he would not have th emoney to squander , on shameless working class people who would rather beg or borrow than work .

 The fact he is part of a large group of DLA claimants and permanent layabouts , who have never found a job in 10 years , (none of them )

 tells me that I must be extraordianry lucky to meet the 10  non genuine cases , out of the 5 million on benefits .

just to dispel the myth about "no jobs " , what it really means , is "no company is going to bankrupt itself , employing ne-erdowells , who have not got a days work in them "

hence the demand for Immigrants , and hey presto up pops "yer average Pole "

 How do they manage to feed themselves nutritiously , and do a days work , let alone raise the cash to come from Poland ?

 Simple in Poland , if you dont work , you dont enjoy life at all .

My mate and his brother (both in their 50's) working as bricklayers before the financial crisis worked with 3 squads of Polish bricklayers,(they all lived crammed into a flat in Alnwick) one squad was paid off as their work was below standard,the other 2 squads (in their 30's) could not keep up the pace of work that two 50 year old bricklayers  produced,they eventually packed in and returned to Poland as they discovered the UK was not the land of milk and honey they had assumed and working at their pace they found they were not earning the ammount they thought they could get,Nice people and all that but just showing the other side that people do not read about (or believe)

I actually thought you may have come back with a well founded argument to why you think what you think papko, but I have to shake my head in disbelief ,there is nothing in your last post that I havent read in a newspaper. You seem to think employing english unemployed will bring about a companies collapse ...err ok jamie oliver....Anyway you may be right about one thing,english people may well be at the point of extinction,as you prove 'divided we fall'

It is a good quote, very much applicable to Brazil where more than a thousand people per day die from starvation

Not so applicable to the UK I would have thought - neither in the politics nor in who are categorised as poor - how many here died from starvation last year?

 Quite the reverse , we have an obesity epidemic , with half the population being overweight

More like a 1000 people a day die in the UK through eating too much 😉

 Just guessing without using Google or Wikipedia , 61 million in the UK , say life expectancy 75 ? so roughly 800 000 die every year , divided by 365 , 730k

 So thats about 2k a day die in UK , half them being overwigt .....................................1k

 British Briickies were the best in Europe at one time , hence the big demand for them in germany etc , not every country uses "bricks " in construction like we do , and more importanlty "face brick " as an archictectural feature .

 So Bitish traied "brickies "  , would be used to a faster pace and a high standar dof work due to "price work " , which most brickies would have been on , them in their fifites , would still have got apprenticeships in the 70's and worked on all the building projects council estates etc , that were getting built then

 Polish "brickeis " would not have this back ground , like Spanish "mesons " and German "maurers " , they would not be used to the British system .

 Point being , people can be as good , or as bad at a job as they like , they can stay up all night drinking , or lounge around all day watching telly .

 whatever they want when they want

 Just dont ask me to pay for it .

 Cut the benefits and the "poor " , workshy , waster , underacheivers , shirkers , will HAVE to do something , or they will go without .

The gov has more pressing matters to attend to than counting foodbank users anyway and it wont cost a penny tax money of course and it will line 'yous thats fit to live heres' pockets of course ,or possibly just theirs .
