Hey Dixie, I have a question. How hard is it to learn another language?
I admire anyone who has more than one language.
I know you are German, but you are very fluent in English. When/where did you learn?
Well, I started learning English in school, in year 7 (after 2 years of Russian - eek- which we had to continue). 4 years in school, then continued on my own. Did 3 years French in evening classes, then more 1 year more English, to get language certificates in both. Also since 1979 in correspondence with German aunt in West Yorkshire. Translating any song lyrics I could get hold off.
But it really only kicked off when I lived here in Britain. Arrived July '92 (Yep this July 7th is my 20th Anniversary).
After a year I met within a few weeks 2 people who'd known me from 91+92 and both said my English had improved dramatically. God, what DID I sound like in the beginning then??? LOL
My hat goes off to you Dixie. I'd love a second language. Did french at school but never really took to it 😞
They say it's easier to learn when you're younger...i've got no hope then :^O

English I found always sooo much easier, though I still love French, wish I'd speak/understood it more. Don't know about age, the best is to be in the country, + not being with your own people, then you depend on learning quickly and you pay far more attention to every thing. English guy who spoke German really well, told me to listen to "Desert Island Discs", where you get people from all walks of life - did that for years!!
