E-book readers. Why do people buy them?

Slightly off topic to start with but I was having a clear out of the drawers in my bedroom (the wooden kind) and I found not a single book. They have all been given away on Freecycle etc. I read all of my books, novels and non-fiction, on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. It's an ideal size for reading what seems to be a standard book page at a time. I can read it in daylight or in darkness with no problem at all. what makes it even better is that I can just click on a button and read e-mails or browse the web. Things that you can't do with a dedicated e-book reader. The cost is more or less the same although, in fairness, there are cheaper e-book readers on the market. But then there are also cheaper tablets than the one that I use.

So the question remains, Why do folk buy e-book readers that ONLY let you read e-books written in the company's format when there are tablets out there that allow you to read ANY format of e-book AND go on the web?

My gaster is totally flabbered by it all.

No tablet can match the paper white display of the Kindle for displaying text - you can browse the web on even the cheapest kindle if you really want to.

With regard to format, any that can be loaded onto a tablet can easily be converted for loading onto the Kindle.

A final big plus for the basic Kindle is battery life - fully charged there is plenty of life to read at least two or three books without needing a recharge.
