Have you seen that time out of number there are reports of someone going missing, their family is "out of their mind with worry" (I'm not surprised), there are police appeals then, in most cases there's a happy ending, the person has been found.

The thing is, they never say what the circumstances surrounding the disappearance are.

A woman went missing from a nightclub on Friday night, she left without her coat, bag and phone. She was "vulnerable" and reports say she was drunk. You'd be forgiven for thinking "Aye aye, another woman going to be found murdered"?

Then, this evening, she's found, "safe and well". Excellent news......... But..... What happened? There's never a follow-up, that's it, end of story?

It maybe that in cases like this the 'missing' person has mental health problems. If that is the case, then they and their families may not want that fact made public. And do we , the public, have the right to know these things?  When people go missing, and are then found safe and well, then that should be enough information?

That's what young girls do, they go out, have too much to drink. have a row with their boyfriend/mates, have an emotional meltdown and run off into the night leaving everyone to worry sick about them for a few hours before sheepishly coming back when they start to sober up feeling a bit daft and silly.

The reason there's no follow-up is probably because there is nothing to tell?

They could just say what the missing person had been doing in the meantime? Friday night to Monday evening is a long time and the weather was really cold to be out without a coat?

She did have MH problems it seems.

That is a long time to be gone yikes! She must have been staying with someone. I doubt we will ever find out but I know what you mean about wanting to know. It's like wanting closure.

You often find that with "the news", they make a big song and dance and sensationalise something but when that item ends, that's it, they move on to the next bit of over-sensationalised bit of tittle-tattle.

An unnamed friend said: ‘Apparently she has been with friends for three days and only knew people were worried when a note came through the door. She had no idea everyone was so worried.

Excellent news about her but they could have said more much earlier. Makes a nice change anyway.

Very worrying for relatives who don't know what's happening.

this one had a sad end when her body was fished out of the Tyne.

She's 36, so she's not a kid I suppose but... is it just me that thinks it's quite sad that she thought she could just disappear for 3 days and that no one would notice or be concerned especially when she had left her purse and phone in the club?

Oh well...at least she was found safe and well

Maybe they print that someone is missing in case a person has seen them, not knowing they have been reported missing, or knows to say something if they do. Once found, job done. The reasons etc are not necessary just to serve human curiosity. It's good news when someone is found alive. So many are not.
