Dispicable comments by Osborne and press - over childkiller Philpott

On the Day the sentences were handed down and most Peoples thoughts were with those Kids.

He finally even surprised me, by stooping even lower than I thought possible, yesterday by making Political point scoring remarks , to justify the swingeing Benefit cuts. By using Mick Philpotts behaviour as some kind of justification for the Cuts.

Lower than a snakes ankles, with NO shame

This is what HE thinks of rules and also what he thinks of the Disabled

Re: Dispicable comments by Osborne and press - over childkiller Philpott

yes there are levels..ie the amount of people affected by said act.

Books in that post and i agree said ''seems to me'' and it does also seem to me that a person who went through their life with 'what's in it for me' is more like the kind of person phillpot was.

If that disgraceful headline had read ''seems to me'' then you may have had a point ,but it doesnt.

George Osborne's remark, "I think there needs to be a debate about the welfare state – and the way it subsidised the lifestyle of Philpott… The taxpayers pay for the welfare state, subsidising lifestyles like that, and I think that needs to be examined."

Book's remark, "If anything, selfish scumbags like Philpott are more of a product of 'Thatcher UK' than 'Welfare UK'"

IMO if the first statement can be described as 'despicable' then the second also has to be.

Which of the two statements you or I may agree with, if either, is irrelevant regarding the description of them being "despicable".

The argument between Book and myself has blown out of all proportion with regards to the actual statement made because of that very word 'despicable.

Again in my opinion exactly the same can be said about the reaction to George Osborne's remark.

If you really believe that either the benefits system or what Book describes as "Thatcher UK" led to the actions of Philpott then I see nothing wrong in calling for a debate on the matter or making the connection.

Personally I believe that neither the benefit system nor "Thatcher UK" were behind his horrific crimes.

Re: Dispicable comments by Osborne and press - over childkiller Philpott

fair enough, neither were directly responsible,I see where your coming from now,but books did say it in responds to the article where as osbourne said it in responds to the crime. making osbourne the more despicable comment hence yes there are levels .imo.

Greed was a motivator for comparison in that respect only....osbourne however... well ,we need rid from politics don't we if we are ever going to get near a good imitation of utopia 🙂

Re: Dispicable comments by Osborne and press - over childkiller Philpott

What has not been made clear in the vast majority of reports on this I've read or watched on video is the actual question George Osborne was asked - one has to wonder why.  The closest I can get is from this Telegraph article

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/9972255/George-Osborne-criticises-Philpotts-benefit-lifestyle.html

"Asked whether the Philpotts were a product of Britain's benefit system"

If that was the question then his answer is far more understandable - "I think there needs to be a debate about the welfare state – and the way it subsidised the lifestyle of Philpott… The taxpayers pay for the welfare state, subsidising lifestyles like that, and I think that needs to be examined."

Also if you think on it then it wasn't George Osborne who was linking the actions of Philpott to the benefit system but actually it was the BBC interviewer and GO's comments were every bit as much a "response" as anyone else's.

This whole episode has been blown out of all proportion by newspapers and some politicians for their own political capital

It was good to see that not all politicians took the same tack - Harriet Harman, "It is absolutely understandable – when people limit their families to one or two children and feel they'd like to have a third but they can't afford it – the exasperation that people feel for the very small number of very large families that there are. But if you think of the Philpott family example, above all that was a problem of somebody who was just a criminal, a controlling person who was abusing everyone in their family as well as abusing the system. Fraud should be clamped down on."

Re: Dispicable comments by Osborne and press - over childkiller Philpott

The headline was the vile bit for me,but osbourne could have publicly argued his corner by now after reading that headline...if that was you or I and the papers had done that when that wasnt what you meant or said or believed then you would want the record straight and not rest until it was..

He hasn't said boo so we can only make the assumption (backed by other comments from his political party) that they want an end to welfare by any means possible for the poor and that is exactly what he thinks all poorer are like...ie greedy criminals that would stop at nothing for self gain...ehem  ,well being a british politician himself he would understand how some have that mentality wouldn't he. (glad harriet said something more like what a normal person would say even though I'm not a fan of hers either)

Which unfortunately is saying the same as phillpot is a product of thatcherism ( blair included)...a greedy criminal.

I don't disagree that it's all about self gain the twisting and turning and lying and promising one section vs another the papers and their political backers. The main word Im seeing now due to a well regarded tory ex leaders death is 'DIVIDED' it is about time for the word of the day became 'UNITED' again, that was my hope when cameron got in power, sadly dashed now.

The Daily Mail shown above was published on Wednesday - the following day he was interviewed on BBC radio and the following was one of the responses he made about the furore

"I think where there's been division is when you get pressure groups and sensationalist media reports"

to true. but he could have added if he seriously blamed sensationalism ,what I meant was a closer watch on who is allowed what and their reasons for wanting it right across the board as a society ,thats an aim of this government,I wholly disagree with greed in all it's manifestations and want it out of our mindsets,''we are all in it together'' 🙂

Re: Dispicable comments by Osborne and press - over childkiller Philpott

The headline was indeed the vile bit.

It was that which suggested welfare was the cause of Philpott's actions and also said his actions were aimed to get money from the state, ignoring the fact that, possibly without so much violence, there are men like him in all walks of society, most of them not on benefit.

Re: Dispicable comments by Osborne and press - over childkiller Philpott

Politicians....Ah well ....they all promise the earth and only deliver the dirt!

i agree with Billy Connelly ...who echoed Spike Milligan...

the very desire to be a politician should ban you for life from ever being one..... Don't vote for them ....it only encourages them!

Makes me laugh when I hear them talking about how healthy our economy is.....yeah ...unfortunately the majority of the population don't actually benefit from it! The divide between the rich and the poor is not only growing but is well out of kilter.....with more people being plunged into poverty daily! Where energy bills from privatised utility companies mean that in many households decisions have to be made between eating or keeping warm. Kids growing up with nutritional conditions like ricketts. More youngsters facing long term unemployment from the day they leave school or college. Shortage of affordable housing and people living on the streets. Lack of care and facilities for disabled. An NHS supporting the employment of thousands of non medical and unnecessary staff who would rocket unemployment numbers into the stratosphere if they were allowed to sack them......at the same time there are chronic shortages of nurses, doctors, equipment and ward closures because the NHS can't afford them...because they are behaving to fork out for all the dead wood...which is fine if you have medical insurance and can afford got go private! A professional defence force being systematically destroyed and replaced by cheapo part timers who like playing soldiers at weekends! Ships undermanned and new equipment not fit for purpose. Pubs closing daily stopping social interaction which some politicians and police think is good because people meeting and talking about the state of the country could be classed as subversive.

Of course it's not all bad....but it's hard to enjoy the humiliation of poverty....having wealth and privilege flaunted in your face....as the song says....

If I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor!

i actually think I am very lucky...I might not have material wealth but I do have my integrity. One day it will all come home to roost...history has proved that...
