Delivery times, is this too early

I got a call at 6.40am this morning ,

"Mr X ?"

"Yes"

"good you're up, see you in 20mins"

had a guess but they didn't say who they were

7am

my new cooker arrives at backdoor and put in kitchen and old one whisked away (after I'd sawed through cable to disconnect it, right after call)

I'm up anyway, but loads of people wouldn't be

Do you think the call and delivery were too early ?

If you answered the phone, it wasn't too early, was it ?

Well of course it still would be too early - the phone would have woken you up!!!

Personally, I would have answered it in a panic, thinking it was an emergency call from a family member, at that time in the morning!

Re: Delivery times, is this too early

Hi Al, I think most deliveries to houses usually start about 0800 but I have seen me making a delivery to a work in Aberdeen at 0630 having left Glasgow at 0330.

Would love my deliveries that early, then I wouldn't have to use up precious annual leave for deliveries, could just get it sorted then into work on time

6:40 would most definitely be too early for me - I am most certainly NOT an early bird. Actually quite grumpy before 9:30am. And for a cooker, at that time in the morning? No thank you - they would have got a flea in their ear. If they'd tried to prearrange that time, I would have refused.

If i rang you and got a flea in my ear ..I would put you on the never ..never list..which means we lost your order and will have to look for it... might deliver in a months time..

Re: Delivery times, is this too early

Hang on - how do you make out that it's the delivery men being messed about? Deliveries are normally made from about 8:30am to about 6:00pm - why would a delivery man be messed about if he makes a phone call at 06:40am? As I said - even if a company had pre-arranged for something like a cooker to be delivered at that time in the morning, I would have refused it. How is that messing a delivery driver around?

Furthermore, if the delivery driver is working for those hours, then those are the hours he is being paid for, so no complaint there, I think. Some people may like that delivery time, others of us would not, most especially if it is not expected, which is the point of this thread, I think.

Re: Delivery times, is this too early

Normaly the shop says your order will de delivered between 6am and 8pm.. the driver starts with the closest home order and works through the load on the lorry..thats the way the lorry is loaded.. if your not in he goes away and wont be back untill the next time they are back in your town..they will ring you and tell you what day they will be back again..

Re: Delivery times, is this too early

Sorry to disagree here, Tommy - you clearly were a delivery driver. However, I have never been given a time of between 6:00am and 8:00pm for any of my deliveries (and I've had a few)!! If one were to be given this time and might expect it at that time, then fair enough. I think the point of this thread was that the call (and subsequent delivery) at 06:40am was completely unexpected - in which case a flea in the ear or a grumpy word or two should be perfectly acceptable? In my world, anyway.

6:00 am?????? Good grief.

I know people work these hours, good for them, but don't expect the rest of us to accommodate it if we don't have to or want to.

We run our own business - we don't expect to be able to access a customer's house before 09:00am (unless specifically requested). The customer is always king . . .

Re: Delivery times, is this too early

I've just placed an order with Argos.

Their delivery time states ... 7.00am to 7.00pm.

As do all the firms I have dealt with.

And, ... I order many items for home delivery.

Looking back, none have started (none of mine anyway) at 9.00am. and some have stated a possible 6.30 am delivery.

Personally, if I am expecting a delivery, then if doorbell rings early, I would be very grateful, it frees up the rest of the day, and surely getting out of bed, and donning on a dressing gown, when you know they are coming anyway is not that much of a hassle.

Where's the "British Bulldog " spirit, or are we really a nation of pampered wimps.

Grit your teeth, and try to get out of your bed, just go that one step further without moaning, and with complete resolve.

You can do it.. You know you can..... 😄

Re: Delivery times, is this too early

They'd soon wish they hadn't arrived at my door at 6.30 am to deliver, they'd have to be very patient, while I made myself presentable to answer the door :O:^O
