From 1 October 2014, the paper tax disc will no longer need to be displayed on a vehicle windscreen...What i say is ..Do away with CarTax , put the price on petrol and then you will have no more Car Tax dodgers..you read about 1,000000 people who dont pay Car Tax.... this way they cant dodge as they need fuel..

Nobody has paid car tax since 1937.
It's Vehicle Excise Duty and based on emissions which means with some cars no duty is paid so upping the price of fuel would not go down well and rather defeat the object.
Some boat owners wouldn't be very happy either.

Uk has one of the highest fuel prices in the EU..

The point is no one could escape not paying as the fuel is needed to run the cars. They can colour the fuel for Boat owners..

The World is full of Bums, who are prepared to sit back and let others carry them; tax dodgers are just one example. It would help if they didn't have any friends, or people who are prepared to be in their company; but that would require "Taste" and a degree of fussiness about the company one keeps..........and you can't legislate for that.

"Nobody has paid car tax since 1937. It's Vehicle Excise Duty"
Technically you are right, but the V5 document states that it shows who is responsible for registering and taxing the vehicle.
Even DVLA use the term Apply for a Tax Disc on their website
So is it any wonder that people use the same term

It is a car tax.
'Duty' is simply a form of taxation that is levied on objects rather than individuals - Vehicle Excise Duty can be correctly described as a car tax.
Some confusion arises because vehicle excise duty was held in a 'separate account', (hypothecation), used to fund road building and maintenace - it came to be commonly known as 'road tax' despite it actually being a tax on vehicles.
Strange that many still refer to 'road tax' as it has been the best part of 80 years since it could be described as such - hypothecation ended in the 1930s
As the tax is levied on vehicles, not how much they are used, there is no real argument to suggest this tax should be transferred to petrol or diesel or how much they are used.

The paper tax disc system will be scrapped from 1 October 2014 ... said job roles would change when the paper system for car tax discs is scrapped in October.

Tell the Police who arrest people for not having a Tax Disk on their car,, that they are wrong it should be called Vehicle Excise Duty Disk

But that wouldn't be fair - the tax is due on the vehicle, not on how much petrol is used or on how much they use the road.

It would be fair if you done away with the car tax and put the petrol up then no one can dodge paying as they need petrol to drive the car.

Trust me, as long as you live in a Country where drivers who are banned; are given another ban, when they are caught, to add to the first one that they ignored..........you haven't got a hope in hell of getting any sensible solution.

Why stop there? What about all the uninsured drivers on the road. Lets stick that on the price of petrol too. Sorry as someone that some years does 30k+ miles I do not want to be subsiding all the people with huge gas guzzling "prestige" cars that only do a thousand miles a year.

Vehicle Excise Duty is NOT a petrol tax - it is a vehicle tax.
Might just as well put the tax on tyres or milk.
Some vehicles don't attract a tax but still use petrol.

It's going to be interesting to see how many wrong "convictions" for not being taxed there'll be due to incorrect identification with ANPR?
