Blood Oxygen levels?

Now they've started something?:-

Covid: How a £20 gadget could save lives - BBC News

Your oxygen saturation level varies depending upon what you're doing and now they're advising people with a level of 93-94% to speak to their GP and if the level drops below 92% to go to A & E or call an ambulance?

I've been checking my oxygen saturation for a long time and it's up and down all day. It can be 91% one moment but a few minutes later it's 95%. The highest mine's been is 97%. That's a resting rate indoors. After activity the level rises. It's 95% right now.

Health staff I've spoken to say my levels are OK so will the above news item not amount to scaremongering? Won't it lead to "panic" calls for no reason?

Blood Oxygen levels?

It is like virtually any home tests used with basic equipment, some thought has to put into the using and reading of the results.

The finger oxymeters are not particularly accurate, one or two readings alone may be insufficient to get a true picture.

A consistently low reading combined with any other symptoms probably means medical advice should be sought.

It is much the same with blood pressure, whilst if high, it needs treatment, only if there are other symptoms does it become an emergency.
